Noob needs some help

Let me just start off by saying I just entered the Rx-8 world a year ago and i'm not too sure on rotary engines. I just need to be sure that the dealership is trying to screw me or not, but I figured you guys would know the best.
I have an 05 w/ 36K on it. On sunday I was driving to work when all of a sudden I lost a ton of power. It took mazda two days to call me and tell me that one of my rotars isn't working at all. they said is has to do with bad plugs which then led to bad coils ($500). after all that they said that now with all those fixes that I need a new intake manifold ($1200) plus its going to take 11 hours of labor.
Does this sound about right?

Thank you in advanced

Doesn't appear to be a proper service provider response to me. Certainly worn 'plugs and/or coils can contribute to poor performance, but a total lack of rotor power (low compression?)?

Take note of the enclosed drivetrain warranty and give Mazda North America Operations a call prior to authorizing further service. 1-800-222-5500

"It sounds right" is about accurate for describing what a dealership will charge you for misdiagnosis and common part replacement.

First, their diagnosis doesn't make sense UNLESS you literally have no plugs firing on the 1 rotor.

Since you are at 36,000, I am going to take a guess that you are still on your original plugs, coils, and wires. Buy them from Mazmart and/or BHR here for $140 (coils) $80 (plugs) $60 (wires) = $280, and take about 20 minutes to replace them yourself with only a couple of common tools. If you already paid for them to do that, you got screwed.

The intake manifold would NOT cause a problem on just 1 rotor, as it services both. Don't let them do that.

If your 8 is driveable, get it out of there before they just keep piling up charges. Find some local help from members here. Alot of members in FL.

If it isn't driveable, insist that they do a compression check before anything further, and get the numbers and post them here.

their giving you the bs run around like always.

I am actually sick and tired of hearing about dealers always screwing someone over... why cant they just do honest work, its not like they will be doing it for free...
