Is the occasional "long crank" thing normal?

I tested engine cranking rpm ( Gas pedal to floor and cranking) RPM display started at 220 and ended at 252 During a HOT start. So does that mean that this reading will be lower at COLD and can cause delayed starting? and should i check it on Cold too? Thanks

During a few cranks a solid S1 starter should do about 3 cranks at 250RPM (S2 starter is at 295-300+ RPM) before is starts to drop down as the battery drains. Did you load test your battery yet?

I have tested the battery when engine was warm and turned off and it was showing 12.50v. While starting it gave 14v.
I have yet to test the battery when the car is parked overnight and Cold.

Yeah but you can have a bad battery that is still showing 12+V. A load test is needed to determine the real condition of the battery. But the S2 starter is great, I love it.
And now you can get one for half of what i paid for mine.
You can see the physical differences here. The S2 starter is on the left.

Well battery turned out fine under load. Also one major symptom. At COLD, i cranked ( gas peddle to floor method) few seconds, then turned off the switch, turned it on and then cranked again and it fired right up. What now?

Did you ever check fuel pressure? Check your fuel pump relay (swap it with another blue one) or replace it ($11.00 at Oreulliys), I just had a similar symptom and it was a finicky fuel pump relay.

Yup, Checked fuel pressure and its 57psi. I will Swap fuel pump relay and will let you know the result. If things still persist then i think its the battery because the starter is giving different cranking speed on cold and hot 1.e 160 - 180 on cold and 240 - 250 on Hot

When did you check pressure though? When it was cold or after you started cranking on it? I have a fuel pressure gauge but so I noticed it quick but when I would get into the car when it was cold it would only be 30psi. After on crank it would prime to the normal 60psi. And sometimes it would be fine, so the relay was working sometimes.

So it means that either to change the fuel pump/ Relay or just live with this minor annoyance at cold..
No emergency to replace it... right?

So this is for the occasional long crank when cold... but what about when hot? Just like the OP, about 1/20 times my car would take about 2-2.5 seconds to start. It feels as if it's not getting fuel for the first second, and then starts up immediately.
I wonder if the OP found a solution.
