Unhappy Oil leak...

Well I don't even know what to really write...
I have a oil leak that is progressively getting worse.
This oil leak is of unknown origin, I have cleaned the entire area with degreaser then tried to find it but after I drove it was everywhere again.
I will upload photo's.
If anyone can even imagine what I could be, I would be very great-full.

Oil only leaks to the ground from the passenger side.

Bottom view, Passenger side.

If any other pictures are requested I would be happy to provide them. I am getting very very fed up with this leak, I can not find it nor figure it out.

That is probably your passenger side oil cooler line. The oil cooler lines are the most common source of oil leaks, due to rust. If it's not the oil cooler lines, then it's probably going to get more expensive and/or serious.

if its more concentrated on the passenger side, could it be his OMP? Around that unit is where it seems the dirtiest with oil on surrounding areas.

Yeah, that's certainly possible as well. Highly unusual, but possible. If so, hopefully it's just a broken/loose line and not the OMP itself...

I highly doubt it's your oil cooler line, but you can check the connection for that, it's right in front of the crank pulley above the power steering cylinder.

It looks more like the "O" ring for the oil metering pump is leaking or one of your oil metering lines. But it's hard to tell from those pics, with and oil leak on the front of the motor it is hard because oil gets slung all over everything.

Most of the oil cooler line leaks are straight from the pipe itself due to rusting through. Pretty easy to verify though.

Yeah but if he had a leak on the cooler lines he would have a far greater mess and a low oil light.

Hmm. Most start out with a much slower leak, more of seeping. Low oil light would just depend on how long he let it leak, or if it was leaking fast enough for his normal top-offs not to drop it low enough.

I agree, it could be the OMP, but until he checks the lines and confirms rust free no leaks, it is a possibility.

wouldnt hurt to see if OMP feels loose or seems to have some play, hopefully might just need tightening (being hopeful)
Also im no where as experienced as 9k or RIWWP, but I must note that to me if you look at where some of the lines are connecting, it looks like one of them is empty (looks clear), and a lot of residue seems to be much higher in concentration starting from there down... my guess is OMP seal or that line.... just my .02

I don't see rust anywhere else so I doubt it and I have seen two leaks locally on cars that came from up east and both of them shot oil out and made a freakin' mess.

Yeah oil leaks are tough, but in that area it can really only be the OMP IMO. If the oil line were leaking I would think the belts would be saturated with oil and they do not appear to be. It could also be the pan, when they leak oil gets everywhere.

The oil cooler lines all look fine, in my opinion that is, none of them seem to be leaking anything, a little bit of muck but no fresh nor runny oil.
I was thinking it was my omp gasket being bad, I will check the lines too.
Hmm if it was the omp would it be possible to have oil on both drive and passenger sides. Wait scratch that I just changed my oil which would explain the oil in my driver side via the oil filter being a bitch and draining.
So back to the passenger side. It does seem to be coming mainly from and / or around the omp. If I can get a good grasp on it I'll try to wiggle it but I don't really think its loose, seems like a line broke or the gasket is failing

Could be either the line or the rubber "O" ring. Also remember oil will run down to the oil pan ledge and then run all around the pan ledge. It could also be more than one leak and a leaking pan is pretty common place. But replacing the OMP "O" ring is no big deal, it might just need to be tightened. Was your engine ever replaced?

If it is an OMP line then that is far more involved and at that point you might as well replace all the lines and the oil injectors.

not oil cooler, the OMP lines.. notice how one of the lines seems empty where it connects on the side of the unit.

also if you look at the pic from underneath the OMP, you can see the bottom of the water pump seems to have some oil on it on the corner nearest to the OMP. My guess right now is when the system comes to pressure, its leaking/spraying out from right around the OMP itself somewhere. Again im just speculating here but it would make sense..

Yeah my comment about the oil line was meant for RWWIP. I agree it's likely the OMP or an Oil metering line.

Ah ok, i wasnt 100% sure who exactly that comment was for so i was just making sure since i felt that my original statement was slightly vague as i didnt clearly specify which line in my post you quoted. Hopefully all this helps the OP.

(on a side note 9k, did you see the thread i posted yesterday? I'm sure you could make a wild guess why i asked such a question in it, but thats a conversation to be had elsewhere as I am going to stop thread jacking now lol)

Ok so today I am going to be pulling everything out of the way of the OMP and figure out what it could be.

9krmp, it is the original engine @ 85000 miles with decent compression. Instead of replacing the Omp I might just go with a SOHN, what is your opinion on that device? I think it would be a good substitute and a bit cheaper.

Xero, even though the line looks empty when closer to the line it seems full, just changed the oil a few days ago so it might be fresh oil running in it causing it to look clear just as the line is old and discolored. But I might be 100% wrong and it is empty, it just doesnt seem that way.

^^^ The Sohn adapter does not replace the OMP. It stops the oil from the oil pan being used. You would be using an alternate oil source/bottle directly connected to the Sohn adapter.

^ Yep. If if your OMP is leaking it is liking just the rubber seal between it and the engine and that can be replaced. If the actual OMP is leaking internally then that would be a bigger and more expensive issue.

yeah its probably just the metering pump to block O ring, N3H1-14-604 is the part number

Another vote for the OMP 'O' ring. I'd pre-mix ~ 1 oz. per gal. until it's replaced. The 'O' ring won't cost much, but if you have to disconnect any of the lines to remove the OMP, for no more than they cost I'd also replace the copper crush washers too.

Hmm... Still having this issue, ordered the O ring, but I am starting to think that it is not the issue.. I have oil sprayed up onto my hood in a parallel line to the eccentric shaft, It goes from the left of the hood, maybe 6 inches in to the middle of the hood about? I cant really imagine how the OMP would cause that?
The rx8 has 80,000 miles on the original engine :/
I was thinking the front main seal // eccentric shaft seal (same thing?)
Compression is semi low but no issues yet..
Any ideas?
Oh I think I cracked the pully some how?!
Or it cracked its self? idk

could be the front main, i've seen track cars that make a HUGE mess like that, not usual for a DD, lucky you...

N3R1-10-507 is the part number for the front main $13.44 list.
