Oil Pressure

Oil Pressure
I see tons of youtube videos where the people have an oil pressure way above the middle on their rx8, most of these people also have a messed up engine. Where should my pressure be at? Mine has always ran almost dead onto the middle since i bought it. Is this fine? Does it need more oil or what? I just want to keep it running for a long time.

That gauge is only used to tell you if there is oil pressure or not.
Its not gauging the level or amount of anything.
And don't forget... the search feature is still working on this site....

i tried searching for it, it was all about turbos. i know it doesn't measure the oil im just asking if there is not enough pressure. I know the pressure matters in the rx8 with the rotary. i just don't want any engine problems from lacking pressure. i see people who have their pressure gauge about 3/4 and almost at high. is mine right in the middle not enough?

Dangly,
The Oil Pressure gauge on our car is completely worthless. Honestly, as Jon mentioned it doesn't actually display an accurate reading as to what the oil PSI is doing in your car at any given moment other then to tell you whether there is pressure or NO pressure. If the car starts, it assumes there is pressure and moves to the exact same spot every time.
Functional oil pressure gauges never stay in the same spot as oil psi varies greatly based on engine load, rpm, etc. I have a digital oil PSI gauge in my car and I can tell you it varies from 10psi up to 80psi depending on what I'm doing. In other words, if ours were at all functional, it would spend most of it's time sweeping back and forth.
Pay no attention to other people's gauges who are at "3/4", it's just the needle going to that pre-determined spot every time.
Is your car running properly? Are there any signs that the oil system might have a fault?
I'm just wondering why you're worried about your oil's pressure.

my car seems fine, i've just heard of all these people having engine problems and it worried me. mines worked fine. only thing ive noticed is if im in 3rd or 4th getting on the freeway if i hit about 5k rpms i get a kinda buzzing sound. it just might be my exhaust though, in 1st i can go up to 9k without hearing it. i do have agency power titanium exhaust though. so maybe something is just rattling cause it barely fits into the stock exhaust slots in the bumper. thanks for your oil pressure help
