One of the HID dies...
The right HID dies yesterday...I brought it to mechanics and they ordered a new bulb from dealer(~$250...) and tried to change it.
After they changed it, STILL the same....
Other bulbs on right side are fine...
Does anyone know what's happening??!?!?!?
Is it the problem of wire harness?!?!?
Thanks

May be the wiring harness. Its definetly electrical if the HID was changed and is still out. That tech has some diagnosing to do. The other bulbs would be fine cause they should be wired in parallel. Most likely an "open" circuit.
Which headlight is out? Low beam, high beam, both?
Ah, not that is matters. The tech needs to get into taking some voltage readings in the wirings to figure out just where the problem lies.

However, since his headlight was replaced with a new headlight, and it still didnt work you can rule out the headlight as the problem.

Any updates on this problem?
I have the same problem. My right headlight (low beam HID) started to flicker couple weeks ago and then it totally died. I changed a new HID bulb and it worked fine. Now few days ago the buld died again!? It was a cheap "brand-x" bulb, so i bought a new philips bulb, same as the original.
So now there's a new bulb, but no light. I've checked the fuses also and they are ok.
Is it some relay or groundig problem? All other lights works fine. Only the right lowbeam is out.
I have read something about "ballast" problem. Can anyone explain to me how to diagnose the ballast problem?
Thanks for any help, sorry about my bad english.

its pretty simple, its either the bulb, ballast, fuse or the wires in between...

i've never done it on the 8, but usually its easiest to plug in a known working one. you have to be a little careful, you can test that the ballast gets 12V power, but the voltage to the bulb is really high, so its a little dangerous.
i know doing this ON the Rx8 is hard, cause its not really easy to get at the bulbs

Ok HID lights are actually impossible to diagnose electrically past the 12v supply and ground. You need to see the voltage spike on an oscilloscope to identify the problem and no scope under $30k is able to test at those voltages (cant get an inductive pickup on them like a plug wire). The only way to diagnose what part has failed is pull everything apart and swap one part at a time from side to side and see what part the problem moves with. If you by chance have an intermittent problem on both sides there is no way to know what is wrong unless you just replace every component past the primary voltage (bulbs, ballast, resistors, coils).
dont worry about getting zapped on these unless your playing with stuff with the lights on, its not like power lines. if your headlights are off there is nothing there to hurt you so just move parts around.
