I't over heated.

Bad needs. Coming back from a friends house last night the car over heated. just before it did over heat it lost all power at 8.5k i looked at the temp gauge and it was fine. looked down 10 seconds later and it was in the red. pulled over as soon as i saw the engine temp in the red. opened the bonnet and steam was everywhere. i waited for the car to cool down and tried to start it and it wouldn't fire over. checked the coolant, as i opened the cap there was no pressure and there also was no coolant in there to. the undertray was covered in coolant too. i went round to the back and there is coolant up the rear bumper. i haven't checked the coolant for a while and my mum also said there was coolant on the drive when i left so i had a coolant leak. this happened at midnight and 10 miles from home. My step-dad came to help but there was nothing he could to so he phoned for a recovery truck and i waited for them for a few hours its currently sat at there garage. i'm going back later to have a good look it and dig my other car out. looks like she's going to be of the road for a while.

I's looks like a possible engine rebuild. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

if you overheated it with a cooland leak then it's time for a new engine, not a rebuild. It will be much cheaper, lol.

thought so.

I would like to stress that i was unaware of the coolant leak. otherwise i would have never have taken it out.

I'm not positive about the 8, but my wifes old ford overheated one night and once the temp got hot enough the ecu cut power to prevent damage. I hadn't heard of it before but I was relieved. Maybe someone else can chime in b/c if thats the case you just need to find the leak, fix/fill/bleed and be good to go.
