Overfilled with Oil

Hi,

2 Weeks ago i took my rx8 into a local garage for an oil change the oil change was done and i reset my trip A to check the car again after a few 100 miles.

250 Miles later i checked the cars oil and its quite alot over the fill mark of the dipstick.

What possible damage could of been caused for having the car overfilled with oil for so long?

From: in the basement
Best case scenario:
Nothing happens

Bad case scenario:
Oil in air filter and accordion tube

Worst case scenario:
Stuck valve caused by the oil

nothing, you will eventually burn that oil off...if you did research on the car you would know that the rotary engine burns oil by design...

i expect i would of got the CEL for the Valve by now right?, i had a quick look at the air filter (not the accordian tube) and it looked clean so think i might of got away with it.

Thanks for the help

tip for UK Rx8 owners don't use Kwik Fit.

A rotary engine is not like a piston engine. There's no crankshaft swinging around down there to whip up the oil etc. I used to intentionally overfill by 1 quart for racing ( before I figured out it wasn't necessary). Have never found oil in my intake or in other RX-8 I've been involved with. That's all just another forum myth of people here trying to explain a problem they don't understand or haven't figured out correctly. You would have to grossly overfill, as in many multiple quarts over the limit, in order for that to happen.

While I agree that oil in the intake from overfilling is usually a myth, I can't say it total is.
Remember how this whole thing got started.
I would say a large majority of the time its not what people think... and the car I worked on (which spawned the SSV terror) was one of those "special" occasions.
But because I've seen it first hand, I can't completely rule it out.
Again... not totally disagreeing with you Mark because I do believe people jump to conclusions.

IMO oil in the intake is not the cause of that problem.

Are you talking about in general or the situation I was involved in?
Not here to start an argument with you, I do respect your opinion and would be interested to hear what you have to say.
