Overheating!
#152
What happens with any of your other cars (if you have one) in a situation like where you saw those high temp #s? I remember I was in gridlock on the interstate with my dad in his Cadi STS and it was about 90 degrees outside and the temp was creeping past half way, we had been sitting there for about 30 or more min with the ac running.
Did someone already bring up oil grade?

It seems to me that there is a lot of other cars on the road at the same time and they don't, to my knowledge, seem to be overheating. Actually it's kind of rare to see a car broke down on the side of the road from overheating.

I lol because it looks slick.
but that mod is not for most people out there (I can do it but ... I think a better Rad than Koyo even stock can solve my problem)
Oh MM, You're on Stock rad right ? I thought that you have BHR's rad installed ? BHR's rad is made by Griffin right ?

So it works so far,, just havent tried it in the real heat yet huh. I'll be over tonight and further analyze this cooling mod of yours.

Jeff seems to be pretty damn good at keeping secrets. To think ALL of you guys were over there helping with the engine swap, you've been working on coils upgrades, and he STILL surprises us!

I'll snap his neck.
Easy,
Not sure if this will help you or not, but I'll post the info from my last track day last weekend.
I am currently running the stock Mazda coolant (55% coolant, 45% water). I have the Mazmart water pump and the Mazsport cooling fan mod.
Ambient temps were in the low 80s. Don't recall what the humidity was, but it was certainly higher here than where you are at.
Coolant temps got to low 230s according to the Scangauge.
Oil temps got to low 240s according to the Prosport oil temp gauge.
I am currently running 15W-40 dino oil.
Before my next track day, I'm planning on switching to a more water/less antifreeze coolant mix. I'm also planning on putting on a second oil cooler. I have a used one I bought a few months back but haven't had it put on yet.

I should also say that these numbers weren't seen until the afternoon sessions, and I had 4 sessions that day. 3 30 minute sessions and one 15 to 20 minute session.
During daily driving my numbers are much lower. Rarely get much higher than 200 on either number, especially since installing the Mazsport fan mod a few weeks back. I noticed when I installed the Mazmart water pump that coolant temps would drop more quickly than before. I also seemed to pick up a bit of power in the upper half of the rpm range.
So basically you can tell your engineers that I get the same temps as you in the midwest only when driving it hard on a track, and then only after a few sessions.

I understand, which is why I'm guessing it may be a misprint, but the 2009 brochure that I received 1-2 weeks ago clearly indicates that both the 6-speed manual as well as the 6-speed Sport AT have standard "dual engine-oil coolers." Page 16 if you count the cover as Page One and only count two sides of the fold-out.

I just checked an old 2007 brochure and it also says that the 6-speed Sport AT has "dual engine-oil coolers." It seems that even the Mazda copy editor and proofreader realized the automatic also needed two oil coolers. Easy should check his brochure and claim false advertizing and the factory has been making a big mistake on all these automatic RX-8s.

I was on the VW website the other day though and their Rabbit has dual comshafts. I think they meant cam...

1 oil cooler ? ...
Oh hey Easy, do you have any oil temp gauge installed ? consider the water temp you're having. I wonder what kind of Oil temp you're getting.
I already feel bad for my car, due to Koyo's heat *soak* problem, my oil temp up to the 105 Celsius, thats highest I've seen, and highest water temp I've seen is 107 Celsius -_-, it happens when its just like 80 degrees outside,
at temp like this, those oil gonna turn bad really fast.
im going to drain and flush all motor oil as soon as my new rad arrives. (last flush was like 500 miles ago, it should be still good until maybe 1.5K)
