P0076 Troubleshooting

I recently got my car back in running order and I started throwing P2259 and P0076.

Throwing P0850 but that's the neutral switch as well and it's getting replaced in a couple days, also unrelated to the above two codes AFAIK.

I pulled the UIM and replaced the VDI and SSV solenoids, cleaned the connectors, pulled and cleaned the SSV, etc. APV is deleted.

Anyway, after replacing the solenoids and putting everything back together P2259 went away, but P0076 came back.

I'm not suffering from any adverse side effects as far as I can tell. No power loss, no stumble in the top end, car pulls as strong as ever all the way through the rev range. Zero issues on that front.

I'm going to pull the connector again to clean it and make sure there's solid contact when plugged in, but just figured I'd reach out after searching since most point towards replacing the solenoids which I've already done.

Any advice for me to check before I tear back into the thing and try to figure it out?

Could possibly be faulty solenoid from new, varify the operation with 12 volts to be sure, possibly swap in another known good one, or simply swap them around to see if the code stays or changes. How old are your vacuum lines?, possibly a split that cannot be seen (not sure that this would give you the p0076 though). Mine are old but the code went away and did not return after simply throwing in a known good solenoid. Crosses fingers in case I jinx myself also!!

A sticky SSV could possibly cause this, I remember that I did also clean mine up a lot with throttle body cleaner while I had the UIM off at the same time as replacing the bad solenoid. I dont pretend to be an expert, just trying to be helpful and throwing out plausible options! Besides, I'm at work, and what else would I do?

Please post your outcome as this info is helpful to others in the same situation.

I'll have to check the solenoids, hopefully I didn't get one that was DOA.

As far as the SSV, I removed it and cleaned it the at the same time that I did the three solenoids, so I doubt that would be the problem.

P0076 is entirely a solenoid/wiring harness issue (low control voltage for the VDI solenoid)

The harness control wires for those are very small diameter and have been known to become brittle to the point they break near the connector. You might consider a continuity check if the solenoids check out. The wires are fairly easy to depin from the connectors too, which makes inspecting and cleaning any corrosion from them much easier. It could also have a grounding/short issue. Worst but probably most unlikely case is the PCM circuit for it burnt out/failed.

good luck with it

Got it all figured out, thanks for the help. Ended up just having to unplug and clean the connectors and replug them back up!
