P2096 with freeze frame data

Hi everyone

About 2 months ago, the CEL came on while driving and I pulled a P2096 DTC. I cleared the code to see if it would come back and it hasn't until the other day. Since then, I bought my own OBDII-USB adapter and pulled the freeze frame data. I am not really seeing anything wrong here. Can someone confirm? Thanks! P.S. This a stock 04 MT with 70k miles.

Can you post one at idle?

Which PIDs should I be monitoring at idle?

Just log everything. But I bet everything is just fine, it could be something as simple as not tightening the gas cap. But if you post an idle log I may be able to see if there appears to be a vacuum leak.

Have you reset the sensor profiles? If not search for the "brake stomp" method or how to reset the NVRAM.

Do you have a history on the maintenance of the car? have you read the new owners thread (below my sig pic in blue)?

I assume from your join date you are the original owner?

Yup, I am the original owner. I have been around a while. I went through the service manual flow chart for the P2096, but I wasn't really able to narrow it down to anything except MAYBE the upstream (front) HO2S. For a leaky gas cap though, I thought that I would get a different DTC whose description is "small evap leak", not a P2096? This happened a couple years back and replacing the gas cap fixed it. What is strange is that the P2096 DTC occured ~2 months/~2,000 miles/~100 starts ago, I cleared it without doing anything, and now its back again. I would've expected it to come right back within a few drive cycles if there was a real problem, but this huge lapse in time is strange.

I'll get some idle data after work today and post it.

So I have some more bad news. I have two more DTCS: P0571 and P2070. Both are stored and P2070 is also pending. I also captured data while the car was idling and put it here: http://sdrv.ms/13wUx4G

In the spreadsheet, the columns represent each PID and each row is another sample point. I captured about 24 cycles.

Your AFR's are little lean (right at 15 and should be 14.6-14.7) at idle which could represent a vacuum leak. But your logs are really hard to read formatted that way and freeze frame data makes it hard to get an average. In some spots your STFT trim is off a little which could mean a vacuum leak as well but to know for sure you really need a solid 30 second log at idle and that won't work with your logging solution.

If I cut down on the number of PIDs I am monitoring, I can get a good 30 second log at idle. I'll do that tonight.

Well I looked at the DIY for trying to diagnose and repair the P2070 and I think it's above my skill level And it seems that if you take it to Mazda, they just want to replace the entire intake manifold at a cost of $2400 or something. Maybe it's time to get rid of the car, sigh.
