P2259 & P0610 - Uh oh
So, I have been dealing with trying to pass emissions for Illinois since August.
I went a few days ago, and have two more codes to go through. The cat is on, there has been zero engine work done on it (even though it has a 'new' engine in it since last year)
P0610 and P2259
I know the P2259 is about the air solenoid, and I was about to buy http://www.partswebsite.com/mazmart/...KL0118741.html but I continued to read, and there are three solenoids - does the code of P2259 only represent the top most solenoid, and I only need to buy and replace the one - or do I need to diagnosis all three and possibly replace all three?
In regards to the P0610, I have a feeling this is a new one. I know RIGHT before pulling into the emissions test site, while waiting in line, I had pulled the E-break, but forgot to pull it out of gear, so I stalled it; could this of been the reason?
I have not had time to re-check it, but this P0610 (the PCM error code) seems like a big deal to me, and expensive. Any advice on how I might want to go at this one?

All 3 solenoids are the same, the P2259 is for the solenoid that corresponds to the air pump solenoid which is the top one. So yes just the top solenoid.
Its the blue line in the diagram, solenoid is located right behind the intake manifold.
As for P0610 it could be wiring to the PCM or something of the sort. Not too familiar with that one, maybe someone else can chime in on that.

Thanks, I am hoping the other code (P0610) just goes away.
I am buying the solenoid (I had already attempted cleaning the connectors prior) and hopefully that will fix everything so I can pass these damn emissions tests.

Finally got the solenoid in, fixed the P2259 error.
Cleared fault codes, was about to take it into emissions today, was playing with Torque when Torque kindly reminded me that the code came back (it was cleared all yesterday).
Any idea what are quick, go-to, fixes for the P0610? I ask this, because what I search and read, scares me.
Car runs fine, and this is a new issue, within the past month or so. What causes the PCM to freak out and throw the P0610? My guess, is it happened while I was waiting to get my emissions last time, I "stalled" my car (dropped the clutch while the hand break was on).
Could that have caused any issues with the PCM and why it freaked out? I cleared the fault codes, but maybe a 'hard' reset of the ECU (battery pull + break stomping) could fix this?

There is a separate 610 thread. I get it when it is cold,
Look here. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...-610-a-256168/
Turn off car, key on, reset with scanner, turn car off, should be good.
We think it might be power related, but are not sure. It also seem cold start related. I do not get many troubleshooting opportunities in Florida, so not sure. Infiltrt Eight gets more.
Likely the stall did not do it, but the restart, with stuff on in the car, may have dropped voltage enough to cause it. Best we got.

PCM/ECU generate this code when for some reason it cannot complete all it's test and "job it's designed to do"
Most likely its because after a few drive cycle it still can't get fuel trim right BUT all other sensor feedback shows normal(within spec), when that happens, the PCM will throw this code out.
check and see if the fuse and it's connection is good. After so many years I noticed some of the 8's fuse blade beinging to rust and create all kinds of weird problem, it does show continuity, but it has high resistance, on one of the 8, I just replaced all fuse, sand/clean some connectos, and the problem never came back. just a thought

thanks,
that fits with the idea of electrical. An intermittent fuse sucks.
I only get it when the garage temp is below 60F. I first saw it at the track, when it was in the 30's. It also threw an O2 sensor heater (some idiot left it in for 130,000 miles). I changed that, and do not get the sensor error, but still get the 610 on cold days.

I had taken a look at the Fuses before - only could find one that is denoted to the engine? The info I was reading on another P610 thread was saying there are 3 fuses.
Cold could be a cause of a lot of this stuff - it has been some of the coldest days around here (Chicago) lately. Also, if I send a clear command to the system, I cannot go get emissions testing, because I than have to redo the drive cycles in order to get the system to go through all of the sensors.

My notes are in https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...-610-a-256168/
From what I have seen, you could start the car, get the error, let it warm up, turn it off, reset the code, and the car would be happy. My access port shows P0000 (all clear from what I understand). I am going to scan with the AP next time I get the error.

After dealing with couple dozens of these rx8 (and other cars of the same age), I would say the wiring on Rx8 is actually quite good, even when comparing to some BMWs/Mercedes, cuz after 10 yrs (most are less) the wires on those BMW/Mercedes will turn into pieces on it's own. they called those "Eco-Friendly" wiring, biodegrade on it's own I guess ? LOL
I think I should start offering some kind of new wiring Service with better wiring than Stock, which should last the life of the car(except the connectors, cuz the Life of them are usually 5-10 years, depends on local climate)
I spent 4 months and finally figured out all connectors and where they came from(who made them), Some of the connectors are NLA since 1999! when I found out I was like seriously ? I am asking the manufacture to see if they are willing to make some for the poor Rx-8 owners out there, but Japanese manufactures are usually slow and takes 2-3 months to even get a "yes or no".
Even if I do make it it's not gonna be cheaper (probably a bit more) than Mazda's wiring, but it will be MUCH better quality, and as long as I'm alive I think I can make one (unlike Mazda, when it's sold out it's gonna be NLA)
Will have to see if I can get the connectors first.

So the PCM is affected by the weather, which is somewhat understandable. So, you say wait until weather is warm, clear the codes, and than run it again a few times so that my codes are 'ready' state for emissions test, and I should be all good as long as the weather is nice?

That would work, or just do it later in the day when it is warm.
I am currently testing an alternate cause. One, that if it turns out to be true, will have me buying Dannobre a lot of beer.

Just asking because I also started to get the P0610 error when the outside temperature is colder. Just like it was said, it happens on cold starts and never when the weather is warmer or the car is warmed up. No sign of any problem otherwise.
Contacted Circuit Board Medics as mentioned in your other thread but they replied that they cannot help me with this issue.
I'm wondering what other possible cure exists, other than replacing the PCM - which I definitely want to avoid.
