Pedal positioning sensor

Pedal positioning sensor
Hey everyone, I just bought an 04 rx8 about a month ago, and I love it. But about 2 weeks ago I was driving down the highway and the car went into limp mode, and the check engine light came on. I can turn the car off and then on again and most of the time it will come out of limp mode for about 5-20 miles. It's completely random when it decides to go back into limp mode. So the first thing that i did was take it to autozone to have the code read. It turns out it is the pedal pisitioning sensor that's throwing it. I unplugged, and inspected what I think is the sensor, and it all looks good, though I haven't taken my multimeter to it yet. Does anyone know what exactly is going on? Is it just a sensor that went out that just needs to be replaced? I work as an electrical troubleshooter, so I'm pretty handy with a multimeter, but I just need to know what I'm working with. So if anyone can help me out i would appreciate it a ton.

There aren't a commonly fail items. Check the APPS before the TPS according to the service manual.

The TPS is built into the Throttle body if im not mistaken and the whole thing is 600+ bucks.
