Popping after coldstart

Hey guys, I need some help here.

I have an 06 RX8 with 34K miles. I've changed the midpipe to a catless bhr and have the BHR ignition coils and spark plugs.

Since installation of this equipment. It seems to have brought out a flaw in the RX8 that was hidden previously.

In the morning during cold starts the car will pop/spit during acceleration. The confusing part is this pop doesn't affect the power delivery or jolt the car in any its just an audible obviously wrong sound during acceleration.

It always goes away after the car has fully warmed up, I've experimented with different sitting times and from a cold start I have to sit for about 8 to 9 minutes to be able to leave with out the popping any earlier and it will do it until its at operating temperature.

Any ides. I've retraced the lines on the coil kit and its wall wired like its suppose to be. Plugs are brand new. I'm not sure what else to look for or should I just start saving for a rebuild and wait for the motor to tank...

sounds like a rotary engine to me

I know that when I start it up in the morning I idle at about 2500rpm for a few seconds then it drops to 800-1000 and gives little pops (like air bubbles). when I am coasting down a hill while it is still in gear, I get a very low pitch grumble with some pops (not to loud). And of course when I shift from above 6.5 k I get a huge pop.

Yeah my idle usually hits 2000 at first key turn but slowly tapers off down to 1000 idle at light after a few minutes of driving usually has it resting just below the 1000rpm mark... But I'm just concerned really as this wasn't an issue before. The equipment looks good so I don't think its anything bad with the BHR parts...

So these engines always just hate the cold like that?

this would be fixed by deleting the air pump I'm assuming?

It will be lessened but the noise wont be completely gone. It's distinctive to the rotary engines rich start nature

Thanks, everyone I was a bit concerned one detail I did forget is this noise doesn't occur if I rev the engine in neutral or park. (not really revving high enough in reverse) only in Drive or Manual mode

I have the racing beat header but I didnt buy the air pump cover so instead of waiting, I installed it anyways. I am considering just removing the pump altogether now. When I install the cover, is there a chance the exhaust will change at all? I like the sound of it when it gives the little pops and grumbles but I hate the high pitched whine on startup.

thanks
