possible damage? code 2259 and 0661
Hello everyone and happy hollidays.
after musch research here on codes p2259 and after finally checking the order of wire connectors behind the UIM i FINALLY CAME ACCROSS that instead of the plugs being in order...correct me if im wrong, I noticed that instead of the top one being blue, second white and third (i believe is black) the white one was on top and the blue in the middle. Ihave had the check engine light on since I owned the first 8. I managed to pull the wire harness from behind the UIM (SKINNY HANDS) AND PUT THE BLUE ON TOP AND THE WHITE IN THE MIDDLE. i TURNED THE 8 ON AND behold! check engine light is off! Im letting it warm up. I still connected the ecm code reader and although there is no checking light on I got the p0661. Would a reverse on the plugs cause damage? I have been driving the 8 for more than 2 years with the p2259 code.
Now IM WORRIED that whoever connected the plugs the wrong way when I first got the car did not know how to recconect them. Any advice would be appreciated.

The P0661 code indicates that...:
- The SSV Switch does not detect the SSV actuating
- The SSV is not moving at all
- The solenoid isnt switching ... so the SSV does nothing cause no vacuum
Check for a free (non-sticking) SSV valve, if its free moving by hand easy check the SSV Switch at the SSV (use a multimeter), if the switch is working fine check the vacuum lines fom the UIM solenoid to the SSV (disconnect at solenoid and use mightyvac to check)... if that is also ok ... check the solenoid ... sometimes they broke but often they have just bad corrosion on the contacts.

Thanks for the quick reply.
My question was more towards the fact that does to the fact the plugs were in the wrong place (white on op and blue in the middle) once I placed them in the right order the p2259 code dissapeared but the p0661 came on. Would there be any kind of damge since the plugs were in the wrong soleoid? I will be checking the ssv connector since my 8 is driving perfectly, no loss of power, shaking....nothing. it drives perfectly.
Thanks

There shouldn't be any damage since they're both intake management solenoids. When plugged in incorrectly it might throw off fuel trims by significant amounts but it's unlikely that damage would be caused to the engine or solenoids themselves.

So I played with the plugs. I put the white (p0661) where the blue is. The 0661 cleared and the p2259 came on. I reversed them again and the 2259 clesred snd the 0661 came on again. when I inspected the white plug I noticed that he cables connected to it jigle back and forth. How do I tighten the wires inside the plug so they are not loose? since I have skinny hands I can easily reach the plugs and solenoids so hopefully wih your advice I can somehow push the cables in the connector and tighten them.without taking appart the UIM.

You have a problem causing the P0661 code, but it isn't showing up until you have ithe wiring connector in the correct position. The other code is occurring because the connectors are not installed in the correct position.
P0661 code is either a bad solenoid valve (what the white connector is plugging into) or the wiring between the connector and the computer is broken or not connecting properly somewhere. In most cases the solenoid is bad and needs to be replaced.
Look up the code and how to diagnose it here:
