Power Loss, blinking CEL, rough idle....
So after 5 blissful glorious years of owning my rx-8 gt, the car loss power on the hwy and the CEL started to blink. Pretty scary. Managed to limp home. Oddly, at one point of the journey, the car went back to normal operation again.
However after restart at home, the engine idled roughly.
What I've done thus far:
- Add more 91 V Power from Shell. Thought it might've been bad gas?
- unhook battery to reset the computer
- opened up the air filter to see if there's oil. None. Dry as a bone.
Couldn't really smell anything bad. There were some bad odour on the limp home. But since then, it's been fine.
<sigh> This has been such a fine and wondrous car all these years. Any ideas?

Yeah i know.
No OBD2 reader.
Only so-called mod is K&N filter if one can even call it that. Had it for 2 years.
No problem ever. Apart from oil change, all major services done by local Mazda dealership per schedule.
Car has 35k km. It has become a weekend car.
And yeah I may have been here since 2003, but life takes us to many different interests.... you should see my Join Date at the i-club! Some folks thought I was one of the founders.

Well its hard to tell from the little info you gave
But ... things like the OMP malfunctioning can cause limp mode.
Free easy stuff to check, MAF, ESS
Could be a fuel pump issue
Clogged cat
You need to get those MILs read
