Push Start works but using key not working
My car will start using the "push start" method - my wife sits in the driver's seat, puts the car in gear, while I push the car from behind. I drive my car for about 20 mins so the engine is warmed up and is no longer flooded.
However, my car won't start when I use my key. I replaced my battery already.
It seems to really struggle to turn over.
Are there tell-tale signs if the issue could be my spark plugs or ignition coil (or something else)?
Thanks

Start by checking the wiring going to the starter..if the wire is corroded or broken you won't get proper current
You could try jumping the starter if you know how..that will remove the possibility it is the wiring
Otherwise sounds like the starter is going..

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I have an 04 and am just learning now about the starting/flooding issues this year. I didn't drive my car for about a month and I had to start my car using Mazda's engine de-flooding procedure in the manual (while I had my battery hooked up to my other car with starter cables)...I did get it working a few weeks ago but then it didn't start even after just a day of inactivity.
I then bought a new battery today with 525 CCA and it still wouldn't turn over. I don't have much money to spend on parts so if there's something that I could do before I buy any new parts, I appreciate the help.
Meanwhile, I will look into the starter motor as maybe being the culprit.
Do any of you know how difficult it is to remove the starter motor?
Could it be my spark plugs too?
This really sucks....

I would check the wiring...a new battery should do something....
Could be wiring, fuses, relay.....Ign switch....do you have a flashing security light on the dash...it could be the Security module has "lost" your key....If you have a different key try that as well
Starter would be easy to replace...easy DIY...2 bolts and one nut and an electrical connector....15 minute job.

Okay, so I managed to pickup a remanufactured starter from Pep Boys and installed it today. It solved my problem!! I can start my car without any hitch or hesitation. My remote start works like new again too!! I really wish I knew about getting my starter replaced during my warranty period...
AND...for some reason, my car seems to idle alot better too! Could this have also solved the rough idle problem?
I am SO glad I turned to my RX-8 community for help...BIG THANKS!!!
