Puzzling Navigation System Issue
Long story short I ended up having to replace the battery on my '04 RX8 with navigation.
After replacing the battery, the navigation screen opens, but display's no picture (it doesn't even come on) what so ever and is non responsive to any inputs (no beeps or anything). Initially the screen wouldn't close on it's own when I pressed the "open button". The actual DVD player in the back will eject the disc and seems to be working, although I haven't heard if it's actually reading the disc.
This lasted for about a week. Yesterday...inexplicably, everything started working as normal, nav system fired right up, screen functioned properly, I was happy. Today, the screen isn't working again but it now will open and close with the push of the open button. When the screen opens, it opens completely and then tilts down slightly but doesn't seem to turn on.
I'm totally stumped, has anyone got any ideas?

Are you sure you're getting proper alternator ouput voltage (13.5 - 14.5v range)? Perhaps your new battery isn't at full charge.
Recheck your battery connectors as well.
Intermittent electrical/electronic 'gremlins' are really difficult to diagnose.
We might need the long story to better assist.

Has anyone figured this out?
My battery was 100% dead, turns out there was hardly any water in it, so I topped it off, gave it a 2 amp charge (took 2 days) and now I am having the same issue.
The nav will pop open, I can hear the nav disc being read, but nothing comes on the screen, all of the controller buttons are inoperative, and I have to close the screen manually.
Really hoping there is an easy solution....

mine has been doing that for a while now too. i took it into mazda and they told me they arent allowed to mess with it and they have to just replace the whole thing and they want 3000 for a new one with install. i think that's ridiculous but it all the sudden started working again not too long ago but now it wont work at all again. idk what to do.

I have the exact same problem for a few months now. Replaced the battery and within a day or so after hard problems with the head unit going on and off intermittantly. Really annoying problem.
Has to be something to do with the voltages because the battery seems to be the common thread here!!!
Anyone have any ideas how to diagnose this one. Its been driving me crazy for a while now.

Here's a bump to see if anyone has any ideas on this one. Mine has been doing the same thing for months - it opens but nobody's home - nothing works except the door opening. I don't ever use it but it would be nice to get it working again. Thanks for any help.
