Question about fans, and how to test them

For those who are going to say it, yes I searched the forums. Searching for fan brought up mods and even fan boy threads, so it was a lot to sift through.

When I got my 8 last year (used 04 model), I specifically remember my cooling fans staying on after I turned the car off for some time. Well recently we hit 100+ temps here and I don't remember ever hearing my fans on unless the ac was on. The car never over heated, highest temp was 209F. I'm just a little concerned because when I popped the hood the other day the heat that kicked out from under my hood was intense and I felt as those the fans should have stayed on.

Is there a way to test them, and does anyone know what temp they should turn on/off at. Also, are they suppose to stay on after the car is shut off if it is at a certain temperature?

Thanks in advance!

How are you monitoring coolant temps? IIRC the factory fans are set to come on to full speed at 206F. How long they stay on after the car is hut off is a complicated scheme controlled by the ECU. If your car is 8 years old I suggest replacing the Coolant temp sensor, it is very important to the ECU and will deteriorate over time.

Easiest way is to use an iDS or a scan tool to activate them to test...but you could jump the relays to see if they work properly...

I'm using torque and an android phone to monitor the coolant temp. The coolant temp seems fine, highest was 209 as stated. What started to concern me was extremely high intake temps when it hit 100 degrees here. My intake temps hit as high as 147 or so, almost to 150 when I was stuck in traffic. I only hear the fans on when the A/C is running, and they click off when it's not. I have never heard them stay on after shutting the car off except for when I first got it last year.

I was thinking maybe a bad relay, or a sensor that is keeping them off. They appear to be functioning fine when AC is running.

Just to the passenger side of where the alternator sits and below the thermostat housing( where the top rad hose goes to the Rad)...kinda below the SSV actuator mushroom....

okay so the fan is kicking on. I parked and got out when the car was around 200 degrees, and I could hear one fan click on periodically. It doesn't seem like both fans are on full speed though. For example, if I click on the a/c the fans pick up a ton of speed.

The relays seem to be working as normal from what I can tell.

*Edit / update*

Today hit almost 100 degrees. So I pulled into a parking lot, shut the air off and watched the temp to see if I could tell when the fans kicked on full. 214 degrees, both fans kicked on full throttle and the engine temp shot down quickly to about 205 or so. Everything seems to be working, however the fans come on a lot later than I thought they did.
