wandering steering

I know this is an old discussion but having just driven back from the UK to Belgium where I work last night I was almost at the point of stopping driving in my RX8 due to it "tramlining" all over the show . The ring round around Brussels is heavily grooved due to heavy trucks and soft tarmac and staying in lane on some of the sweeping bends between motorways was very difficult and quite scary the car pulled hard one way and then the other and trying not to over correct was very very difficult. I have only had the car a month or so and I love it and an normal roads it has been great but a lot of camber or groves in the road and it is everywhere ! The car was serviced and MOT'd recently and every thing seems good including the tyres and wheel set up. Is there a simple fix for this like a specific front tyre ? Or is there something more needed? Or is this actually a fault say with the steering ?I find it hard to believe that this is normal for a road vehicle despite it's quick steering set up.
Thanks

I've never experienced tramlining so bad that I felt it difficult to control the car. Sure, it will tug this way and that depending on the contours of the road surface but it's never required more than a firm grip and a degree or two of steering correction.

It sounds like you may have a genuine electrical or mechanical issue. You may want to check the electrical connectors for power steering rack as well as the universal joint in the steering column.

tramlining

Thanks I will do that , the road service was really pretty bad and it has seemed Ok since on normal surfaces but the day before the engine light popped on and having checked the manual reasons list I guessed it was an emissions issue since it still drove the same and felt the same which had been perfect for me ( the previous owner had fitted a decat exhaust not sure how it passed it's MOT ? ) I was between countries at the time so no way could I get it checked

I will get it checked out first chance asap. I had driven the same route the week before in a four wheel drive Audi which hardly noticed the ridges but then that car had terminal understeer when pushed hard -not that I was pushing hard at the time.

Thanks for the feedback -Joe
