9krpmrx8 has an interesting thread of possible engine failure involving coolant fluid leaking into the engine.

Black smoke means burning oil, white is water(i.e. coolant fluid); check both your coolant fluid and oil levels, which sometimes would have gunky-white-residue on the dip-stick due to condensation. During cold-starts, do you experience a rough start?

You need to do a coolant system pressure test if there are no obvious leaks (coolant on the ground when parked, etc).

You can take it to a shop to perform that test. They'll remove the cap and attach the device over your coolant reservoir then pressurize the system. Primarily, they will look for obvious leaks dripping around the water pump, hoses, and radiator(common piece to break off is the nipple connecting it to the reservoir).
If the pressure doesn't hold up but no apparent leaks, then it's probably internal, which means
