So now I've got a new gas cap... and new front brake pads, new trunk seal, fresh 5W20 oil, new oil filter, and got my tires rotated, all gratis. Can't complain! No mention was made of doing any recall-related inspections for ball joints or heat damage, though. I guess I'll wait for the letter to arrive. It'll probably come on the last day of my summer off and then I'll have to deal with the hassle of getting the car to the dealer when I have to go to work. |
I'm in Syracuse (Burdick Mazda)......I brought in my car today to get my keyless transmitters programmed; I just got it a month go and the dealership lost the original set.
Anyways, I asked to have the thermal damage recall checked out. I brought the letter (dated July 8th) and the TSB bulletin. The service tech had a similar letter dated July 25th which said to suspend all sales of RX-8s. The kicker is that they didn't have the TSB yet to address the issue. I had it with me printed out and he said they couldn't do anything until they received the TSB themselves. Somewhat understandeable but also somewhat not understandeable......... |
I'm getting the distinct impression that some dealers are playing doggo. People keep cold calling at the dealers asking for the recall inspections to be carried out. No wonder they're getting pissed off. Wait for the letter people.

Dealers have been/are being shipped enough heat blankets for in stock Group 1 RX-8's only. They have been told to repair only in stock RX-8's at this point in time. MNAO does not expect the dealers to find any heat damaged items on new in-stock RX-8's, and has not priority shipped any parts other than the insulation blanket. Wait for the recall letter, dealers should have spares for heat damage repairs in stock in August. Gomez. |
this heat issue..i wonder if thats what cause my o2 sensor to melt makin my CEL turn on... well the dealer changed the 02 sensor(after my rp supercat install) for me and now the CEL is back on..

Dookie, the rear oxy sensor connector is one thing they're looking at, yeah....

As I understand it, the only active recall concerning thermal damage is for inventory vehicles -- vehicles that have not been sold yet. It appears that they're prioritizing inspection and repair of new cars on dealer lots, probably becasue there are fewer there than on the road, they don't want to disrupt sales longer than they have to, and there's a finite quantity of parts available so far. Then the sold vehicle part of the recall campaign will kick in -- more parts shipped to dealers and letters mailed to owners. (No sense in sending letters to owners unless the dealers are prepared with the necessary parts, right?) I echo the advice posted here by a number of folks: Wait for your letter to arrive. Meanwhile, make sure Mazda has your correct address. (US owners can click here to contact Mazda North American Operations.) My own case is a little different, I think, because the dealership sold me the car during the freeze -- shame on them for that. |

I just got off the phone with a very helpful, courteous, and patient Mazda Customer Service representative in Irvine. I explained my situation and summarized all of the documents I have in my possession: The "Stop Delivery-Hold" Letter dated July 8 (Note that I am unable to attach these documents because each exceeds the 100K limit on the forum. :()The 13-page "2004-2005 RX-8 THERMAL DAMAGE INSPECTION / REPAIR -- RECALL 3305G -- GROUP 1 & 2 -- ATTACHMENT II" Document The 2-page "2004-2005 RX-8 Thermal Damage Recall 3305G: Dealer Inventory -- Group 2 Vehicles Only!" memo dated 7/14 and its accompanying 5 pages of attachments The 2-page "2004-2005 RX-8 Thermal Damage Recall 3305G: Dealer Inventory -- Group 2 Vehicles Only!" memo dated 7/22 and its accompanying 3 pages of attachments I explained my "car sold to me during the freeze" situation and how the dealer refused to follow the more extensive recall procedure since they (supposedly) were not attached to my vehicle. She said that the recall has not been officially activated yet -- only the "dealer inventory" recall is currently active. As we already know, they are working on getting an ample supply of parts delivered to dealers before letters are sent to owners. She has opened a case for me and assured me that once the recall becomes active, I can call her directly, at which point she will contact the dealer to authorize the more thorough inspection. I should point out that she was quite intrigued (i.e., concerned) about my having possession of the "internal" documents. She asked me how I got my hands on them. I told her the AutoWest service writer gave me two of them and that I got the others from a Mazda dealer's Web site back east. She asked me for names and I obliged. I really hope Rosenthal doesn't get into any trouble or is forced to take the documents down! I asked the representative to forward the information about the dealer's non-receipt or mishandling of the "suspend deliveries" memo to someone to investigate that. She said she would but that I would not be notified of the outcome. I said that was fine -- it's more of a "heads up" for them. After we were done, I thought I'd take a stab to try to gain some "intel" about the engine failures in hot climates... She said she couldn't comment on it -- kind of "cannot confirm nor deny." I told her I respected that. Hey, it was worth a shot! ;) Please check...I hope it is just my computer. I tried to print the Brake TSB.....no luck!! Joe |

Joe But I think it is just you're computer for some reason? I just tried and had no problems... here is the link to the TSB's on Rosenthal's site: http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ins_index.html And here are the direct links to the Brake TSB's: SQUEAL NOISE FROM FRONT BRAKES DURING BRAKING http://www.finishlineperformance.com...6-04-1369b.pdf SNAPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS - 18" WHEELS http://www.finishlineperformance.com...2-04-1301b.pdf Hope this helps! --Tigger! |
If you guys are worried about losing the stuff off the Rosenthal site, just save the lot to your hard drive now.

Why is "sharward" calling Mazda in the first place? All the information that someone needs about the recall is on this site. And if it is something that they don't understand, call your dealership. No one ever gets anywhere call customer service. Take a pill and chill. Rosenthal is a great resource for alot of us. From the sound of your call it was useless. The recall info on Rosenthal site is pretty straight forward. You will get a recall notice in the mail if your car is affected. Plain and simple.

I'm tempted to do the escalation for peace of mind's sake. Rosenthal is a great resource for alot of us. From the sound of your call it was useless. The recall info on Rosenthal site is pretty straight forward. You will get a recall notice in the mail if your car is affected. Plain and simple. I get that you are blaming me for possibly putting Rosenthal on the hot seat for posting what might be considered internal/confidential documents for the public to access. I surely don't want to see that resource dry up either. However, if indeed they have no authority to post those documents, and an unintended consequence of my escalation causes that resource to be taken away, I'm not going to apologize for that. . . Especially since I was anything but thoughtless in my decision to escalate to MNAO. Bottom line: if Rosenthal doesn't have authority to post the documents for our benefit, then they shouldn't have posted them. As of this moment, Rosenthal's library of RX-8 Parts & Service Bulletins appears intact and operational. Thanks for considering and respecting my position in all of this. |
Tommy from Rosenthal has been around a while, he can look after himself.... :)

Just a quick note the 2005 RX-8 Thermal Damage Inspection / Repair Recall and the RX-8 Control Arm/Ball Joint Problems RECALL are affecting European market also.
The second one (Control arm etch) affects only cars produced by 12/03. In Greece we received letters from Mazda about these two recalls to get cars in for ECU software upgrade and check/repairs. |
Sharward, The best way to get quick action is to contact the regional service manager. They are the point man between the dealerships and the manufacturer. Might help you in the future. Whether it is has to do with customer service, warranty work, or maintenance from the dealer. Sorry if I sounded like I was attacking you, didn't mean it.

Latest info to hand......the recall letter will be going out shortly. Dealers are now receiving substantial numbers of the tank insulation pad for the Group 1 retailed vehicles. The numbers of pads shipped by MNAO to the dealer is in proportion to the number of affected RX-8's that dealer sold, and further shipments are scheduled on an as required basis.
If you own a Group 1 car, book in fairly early (after receiving the recall letter....) if you want to take advantage of this initial bulk shipment. Once this allocation has been used, the dealer will have to order one by one as customers book in for the recall inspection. This system allows Mazda some flexibility as many cars are no longer garaged in the district they were purchased from. Regards, Gomez. |

FYI - just got the call from my dealer. They asked me to go ahead and keep the rental they provided my until Tuesday. They have partially completed the 3305G recall procedure and found the gas tank was deformed (melted) and will need to be replaced. Once they get the new tank in they will install and complete the procedure.

Can you give us a little info on your car? Like has it ever flooded to your knowledge, mileage, warranty repairs other problems and so on. That would be of great interest to the forum members.
|
yup ever drag raced and so forth?

So I have not recieved a letter yet, but my dealer called me and said they had the flash in and can get my car in for the work. They said that is the only recall work for my car. Do I take it in to them? It is scheduled for later next week. Just curious. I am going to call MNAO tomorrow to see what they say. I have been patiently awaiting the letter, but I am a little concerned now.

letters havent gone out yet. but may go out this week
