Called up a local dealership and they said they'd fit me in on Monday no problem.
I'll add in a few TSB's while I'm at it, hopefully just have the car in once this year. Have you guys found that dealerships *want* to do TSB work, or is it something I'm going to have to fight with them over? (or is it dealership by dealership)? |

[USA] Federal law allows recording of phone calls and other electronic communications with the consent of at least one party to the call. A majority of the states and territories have adopted wiretapping statutes based on the federal law, although most also have extended the law to cover in-person conversations. Thirty-eight states and the District of Columbia permit individuals to record conversations to which they are a party without informing the other parties that they are doing so. These laws are referred to as "one-party consent" statutes, and as long as you are a party to the conversation, it is legal for you to record it. (Nevada also has a one-party consent statute, but the state Supreme Court has interpreted it as an all-party rule.) Twelve states require, under most circumstances, the consent of all parties to a conversation. Those jurisdictions are California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. Be aware that you will sometimes hear these referred to inaccurately as "two-party consent" laws. If there are more than two people involved in the conversation, all must consent to the taping. before recall and after recall canscan logged
2 Attachment(s)
this first graph is before recall, and the second graph is after recall
Edit: my car with high flow cat + Revi + ram air + aftermarket cold plug (since it is recall, I already took out my cz unit. will install it soon to smooth out the graph ) |
Damn nhk,
Did you go from n to r? The afr's are looking pretty dogone good. Now if they would just work on the timing a little! Olddragger |
Olddragger,
I am not sure is it R, the software filename is N3K9EE00013H6020. Yup, I think that this flash really make the car stronger. I just need to smooth up the 7k-7.8k rpm. |

Ok, thats the 2005 flash right and the 2004 model yr is the r? Or am I just really confused?
OD |
^ I'm confused also

I double check with the 3305G pdf file .
04 M/T => N3Z2-18-881R (R) 05 M/T (Federal non-california) => N3k7-18-881E (E) 05 M/T (California) => N3K9-18-881E (E) All 04 should flashed with R flash after recalled service done, and all 05 will be flashed with E flash. California E-flash is different than non-california 05 e-flash |
Why is there a different flash for the '05 M/T?

because 05 cars have different file names/numbers then 04 cars. one of the reasons is because they are split betweeen california cars and fed/canada cars. you guys not paying attention in class again?;)
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ada#post980302 https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ada#post965221 etc etc etc but what is strange is that for the first time the at cars moved one flsh higher than the mt cars. at cars got to S while MTs go only to R. i am waiting for the answer why this is so. |
Thanks - My brain has been reflashed now :)
|
C'mon Zoom, everyone knows why the A/T's now have the "S" flash.
It stands for SUPERCHARGED! That's how they got 212 hp for the '06 model. :p *Jedi runs away in fear before the instructor (Zoom) yells at me for starting rumors and causing trouble in class* |
Bummer. Dropped the car off to get the oil pan work done, and asked about the heat sheilding/ecu flash.
Guy said if I didn't get a letter, they don't have the parts. It's friggin' Aug. 29th, how do they not have the parts yet? |

I am a bit concerned about the part where they may need to inspect or replace the plastic shift cup. I have the AFE (Richard Paul) shifter, and my stock shift cup is on my workbench. Do I need to be concerned if I have the recall done and they find damage, and they inspect the shift cup, and they find it damaged, and they try to replace it? Would there be a problem with the short shifter cup being replaced with a stock one? Has this come up with anyone yet?
|
I'd just tell them not to touch that part. Since you have an aftermarket shifter, they couldn't check that piece anyway. Also, the likelihood of that shift cup being damaged by heat is probably a lot less than getting any damage at the fuel tank.
Actually, I'm also planning to tell them not to remove the trim from that area, since I have my MP3 player's wired remote molded into the ashtray and I don't trust some bozo not to rip out a cable or something like that when doing the inspection. |
That's true - I could just tell them not to remove the console to check the shifter without calling me first. Thanks for that idea.
Actually, would that be a violation of their required recall procedure? Do they HAVE to perform the entire recall procedure in order to meet their (Mazda's) legal requirements, despite my request that they don't? As an example, could I request that they install the insulating blanket, but not reflash the PCM? (I don't know why I would want this, but it's a hypothetical question.) This would, in effect, only be a partial fix, as the new PCM flash with the protective coding would not be installed. Can Mazda legally allow this situation as part of their national recall procedure without being in violation of the NHTSA, even if an owner requests it? Or, as in my case, do they have to perform the entire recall procedure to the letter and ignore my request that they leave the shift cup alone? |
Good news, turned out they had parts on hand after all. Machined flashed and inspected!

You could avoid all this heartache by refitting your original shifter before you drop it off for the recall......... |
Well I finally got my car back.. They ended up covering the angle sensor even though my warranty had been voided.. and the results of the R flash are fairly noticable. Just as everyone on here has been saying, there is a nice increase in throttle response and mid range power. It just seems to flow a lot better than before with more of a performance punch. My kind of flash.. :)
