rediculous gas consumption of my 2008
So I fill the completely empty tank for 65$ here in Toronto and I am empty at 340km?????
The car only has 73000 km on it and full maintenance always done at dealership. What is going on? Any ideas anyone? Usually my bf posts about my car under this handle but I am posting this time so please keep it grade school level when u try to explain anything to me as I am not a mechanically inclined lady. I bought the car cause of wonderful handling and looks second. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have to be mechanically inclined to read. Look at the stickies in this section, there is a cumulative thread about this very interesting topic. The search function is a wonderful tool. Use it.

how many miles have you had the car?
how many miles have you kept track of the mileage?
how do you calculate the mileage?
do you have more than one mileage figure to share with us?
has the mileage changed recently?
what is your average daily drive like? how many miles, how much time and at what speed(s)?
Manual transmission or Automatic?
What maintenance has been performed this year and when(how many miles ago or when)

The complete newbie stuff stripped out, this is basically just the list of what should be looked at as a potential culprit.
Gas Mileage:
The reality is, a healthy RX-8 will get 17-18mpg city, 22+mpg highway. But 'healthy' means completely healthy: healthy coils, wires, plugs, O2 sensors, carbon free engine, good compression, healthy cat (or no cat), good transmission/diff fluid. Let even one of these slide, and your mileage WILL drop, and it will drop fast. If you believe that RX-8s simply can not get this mileage because you have never seen it, then there is only 1 person to blame, and that is YOU. If you don't get this mileage, then there is something wrong with one of the above points. Or with your foot. Your right foot can make the mileage drop quite a bit as well. And I don't mean granny driving as the answer to good gas mileage. Smoothness is more important than speed. Smooth and fast is better mileage than unstable and slow.
So if you can't get this mileage, start poking around for what is wrong.
