Revs stop climbing at 7k?

Hey guys
I got an '03 8 and she's run up about 30 000 miles.

I noticed the other day when I tried to flog it down a straight that in 2nd and 4th the car would stop revving past about 7k and the speed would remain constant with the engine revvnig but stuck at 7k.

To go faster I needed to change gears and strangely in 3rd gear I could redline but then 4th gear was the same problem.

I noticed that this occured once in 1st gear too.

Even more strangely, i noticed the problem would sometimes disappear and the car would rev fine and then sometimes it would stuff up again.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

I suspect it may be a spark plug issue.

Everything else seems fine with the engine, it revs normally, there is no discernible power less until the 7k and it seems all in order.

I recently had my clutch master cylinder replaced but i doubt that has anything to do with it.

thanks

Same issue

Mogley I just had the exact same issue with my car except 40000 on the dot and Mazda just put a new engine in and i got it back yesterday. Pulls to 9k in all gears just fine Im sorry to say but i think you may be due a new engine. Either way have it checked out as soon as you can.. .its not normal. P.S. if they try to feed you some bs about there being a rev. limiter on the car. Tell them thats crap and try to find the problem again. Be persistant, its what happend to me and finally the tech gave up and orderd a new engine. He' to this day still has not clue why the car acted as it did and did't throw CEL. Best of Luck

The problem is I can't replicate it all the time and it seems to be gone.
I'm worried though that it may just blow up completely if i don't get it checked out now.

Was your's intermittent or completely unable to pass 7k?

Coil unlikely to be specific in rev range.

Fuel pump more likely coz he was driving hard.

My started out as intermittent.... but as it continued 7500RPM was as hight as my motor was going to go. I just could go beyond. I thought it was my fuel pump at first but a new engine proved that not to be the case. Once it became a static issue, mazda did pugs, wires, and coils to no avail. Nothing they tried could fix it and the fuel pump was rated at 60psi as it should be i believe.

I had a decent amount of gas. Not full but not empty either. Probabaly the lower quarter.

I suspect it could be a fuel pump issue because I have run my car to a stand-still on empty twice which probabaly does nothing good for the fuel pump.
