Angry Rough Starts

I read a thread of a person who was having a somewhat similar issue to mines, except mines isn't that severe. My 2004 rx8 6spd touring model has had issues in the past where if i start the vehicle and drive it (both short and long distances) the vehicle will have issues starting back up except for when I park the car for the night. I spoke to my local mazda dealership and they told me that it's the excess gass and that holding down the gas pedal and rev it around 4000 rpm for 15-30 seconds before shut downs should alleviate the problem. which seems to work (sometimes), but I honestly feel like that it could possibly be more than that. I'm new to the rotary world so I'm looking for any help you can give me. Any suggestions/answers?

The only time you really need to rev like that before a shutdown is if the car is not fully warm. For the most part when you are having hot start problems like that its time for a compression test. You could try changing your plugs and coils and seeing if that helps, even if it doesn't then at least your new engine will get new plugs and coils when they(hopefully) install it.

Do a search on the froum, this has been covered multiple times a day usually.

See that's what scares me that it may be engine related because my check engine light was on, but the mechanic who works on it told me the light is on because the aftermarket exhaust on my car has no o2 sensor or something like that. But like I said the car runs fine. About the plugs though, before I bought the car off the lot they replaced the plugs because someone who test drove started it up then shut it off immediately so the car wouldn't start after that. the replaced the spark plugs and got it running and it hasn't really had much problems except for this.

Time for an engine more then likely.

Take it to get a compression test done.

If all does not cure it, you might have to get a compression test to determine the power of the engine.

First you need to find out what code your cel is, goto autozone and they can tell you or buy an obd2 reader. You should maybe take one of your plugs out and see what it looks like, its pretty easy to do just follow the diy for changing spark plugs. You could even ask your mechanic to pull one out so you can inspect it, but thats wasted money.

What about your coils? Some people have coils fail after only 30-40k miles. If you have no clue when they were last changed you might think about changing them.
