how did he figure out that was the problem? My car has the same symptoms as yours so I might be in the same boat.

I'm actually having the same problem, i took my car to a local rotary shop and we spent hours trying to figure out what it was, first was the 02 sensor and cat cause p2096 code popped up, replaced the cat, still got the p2096 and found out it was a dead 02 sensor. But the rattling sound was still there, ran like crap when hot but ran great while cold. We thought it could be the ignition coils while i had the BHR but that wasn't it, put in stock coils and new plugs and didn't work, symptoms still there. After reading this thread, it could be the upper intake manifold, we ran so many test on this, the weird thing was that no CEL popped up especially when the car sounds like its running like crap. This might be the answer why. I'll look in to this.

I was thinking like Model, going in for a compression test but the shop told me compression is fine, it has to be something, I'm excited if the problem is the upper intake manifold, several days of diagnosing this with no results has taken a toll on me and the shop..

If you dont have a large evap leak, then it probably isnt the manifold. But run a smoke test to be sure if you wish

Have you guys tried replacing your upper intake manifold yet? I ordered and got the part but it was damaged so I'm waiting for another one. But check out what I found. The pic is of the part where you put your oil in. Luckily I had another one so I just switched it out. The car seems to run better.

So I replaced the upper intake manifold and that was not the problem. Any other ideas?

model_no15- Hooking-up a vacuum gauge to the VFAD nipple would have told you if there was a leak.
Since it doesn't appear that your problem is the same as the OP's (who had a crack in the UIM), we'll need detailed information about your situation.
The more specific you can be the better... such as RPM range, speed/idle, neutral/in gear, rough idea of where sound (if any) is coming from.

The problem has been fixed. I put chevron fuel system cleaner in a full tank of gas and the car has been running normal.

Alright, just an update.
Had the upper intake manifold changed a couple of months ago, which did nothing.
Yesterday I replaced coils, plugs and wires(had 30k on all of them) which seems to have reduced my problem, but it seems to still be there above 6k.... Going for compression test next.

Let those of us following the thread know how it works out. I'm experiencing the same problems. Currently throwing codes P2070 and P2096. Suspecting my SSV just haven't had a chance to check yet. I ruled out cat problems last weekend with a visual inspection.

Problem is back, with the exact same frequency... Coils plugs and wires fixed it for 3 days....
Im gonna try checking all the DAIS components next, then radiator flush/seafoam(as they should be done anyway)

OK, I have the same problem and could have sworn it was a leak at the exhaust manifold. It seemed likely since it happens only under a heavy load and full throttle. If there is a slight exhaust leak it would increase greatly under heavy throttle. But I've been under the car and no leak found.

So question 1... What the heck is seafoam and how could it quiet that "strangled mongoose" sound??
Question 2.. What was the end result for SuaerKraut? Or are you still hunting?

My car, by the way, 2004 6spd, 83k miles. Only mod is the intake.

Has anybody found any solutions ?

hey I have a 07 rx8 gt and I’m experiencing the same issue. New bar coils and plugs , new catted midpipe from rx7.com and also a new bank 2 o2 sensor. Did seafoam fix anybody’s else’s problem ?

Seafoam, if it does anything at all, is unlikely to fix anything for more than a few days.

I really need to get some of that stuff and test it in my GC-FID and HPLC at work...

Wow, was very surprised when I saw the notification for this thread pop up. Sorry Eddie, I'm 9 years late in answering your question, lol.

End result for me was a new engine. Seafoam/octane boost/whatever was just a bandaid. Get a compression test and I guarantee it'll turn up low.
