Got the 8 back last wed. night after the reflash and plugs, and key programming. Have to say my car took to the flash like a duck to water. The power is better, 3rd gear pulls like 2nd used to and mileage increased 2-3 MPG.
So far happy as hell with the flash.

My car had a lot of powerloss about a week ago so i took it in for the flash.

Got new Plugs and Flash

still drove like crap afterwards and took it back got a call a day later needing a new engine.

2 weeks with a crappy loaner is gonna suck but for a new engine i'll manage.

Just took mine in for the scheduled maintenance (34K on car, they did the 48k service) and flash recall.

Bay Mazda was very accomodating, took almost an extra day but that was fine.

Got my recall, wash, full tank (from almost dry), new plugs.

I've been left hanging 6 times by the RX having a dead battery in the cold, but they said it checks out fine and no excess draw. Odd - must be averse to the cold.

No CX, but I got a rental for two days - whatever I wanted. I had an airport pickup with luggage, so I picked a Freestar. That thing sucks gas almost as bad as the RX!

I had the recall done.......and my car was "fine"

over the last few weeks....my car has felt lke it was going to stall and has occassionally lost power going from a stop....so I drop it at the dealership yesterday....to make the long story short..the CAt was half clogged...they replaced it...the coils were replaced and the engine still showed low compression so......they (the dealership) spoke with Mazda...and the engine is being replaced..allegedly with a brand new one.......so .....how worried should I be?

Finally brought mine in for the 4206F recall today. [Aug 2003 build, manual 6spd, 3 years 4 months in service, 30,150 miles]

They replaced the plugs and updated the PCM programming. All was fine.

Had them replace the trans and diff fluids with Redline again. Nice and smooth .....

I didn't notice any differences with the new programming on the 45 mile drive home.

The service manager mentioned they had not replaced ANY engines at their rather large dealership (Ira Mazda Danvers MA).

* Engine replaced? No
* Cat replaced? No
* Engine & cat replaced? No
* No major parts replaced (flash & sparkplugs)? Not for 4206F
* Other info you wish to share...

They did the 4206F PCM reflash, the engine and cats checked fine.

I mentioned that the car is hard (slow) to start if the car has been sitting for while - which it does when I am riding/driving something else. Like most 8's, I mentioned that it is harder to re-start hot. I do the trick about turning it to on, waiting, then starting, but it is still slow to turn over. I mentioned the TSB about the larger battery. For the fix they replaced the battery, the plugs, and the starter!

When I picked the car up it literally fired right up. We will see how it does after a short stop when hot or after it has been sitting for a week or two.

I got a CR-7 loaner car for free. Some turbo lag, some torgue steer (FWD model), some tranny lag - even in manumatic mode - but it was comfortable and pretty quick once you got it spooled up.

I finally brough mine in this week to have the 4206f recall performed and take care of the ABS/TCS/DSC that's never worked right. I tried searching here and on the web and can't find anyone that has had the same parts replaced that they just replaced on mine.

None of these would appear to be related to the emissions recal but they are all listed under the 60MAZ-4206F line on the invoice.

EF94-57-K3X Sensor, air bag
EF91-57-620C-70 Belt A R , Frt
EF91-57-680B-70 Belt A L , Frt
ZZC1-57-K50-97 Module, Pass, AI

Then there are line items for the reflash, no plugs replaced and diagnosis per recall instructions complete.

Any ideas what these parts really are and what they have to do with the emissions recall?

Sunridge Madza did the flash and changed the plugs. Didn't get the tank filled or the car washed. The wife didn't notice any improvement; the engine still stumbles when cold. The car is used mainly for the weekly grocery shopping!

1, If you need to get a replacement engine it's a rebuilt not new.
2, The only recall that might involve a replacement engine is the 4206F . The very one you posted in. So ask your dealer if your car is affected.

2nd Time Around

Prior to the recall (about 14 months ago) my 2004 had the engine replaced for the usual symptoms. Dealership and service dept were excellent. (Mazda of El Paso). Took in for the recall, new engine was great, engine mount replaced. With another summer, my second engine has just been replaced - having the same symptoms. Again, the dealership and service dept were excellent. I'm wondering if I have a "lemon".

My 04 MT has (possibly imagined) power loss over the last month.. and a "gas" smell during idle about 3 weeks ago (that has gone away lately).

Took it into Courtesy Imports (where I bought it back in February) today.

They said it needed PLUGS and REFLASH. They didn't mention anything about the CAT, but I didn't ask (I will ask tomorrow when I pick it up).

It also got a new motor mount and a new driver's side sun visor (it had basically fallen off).

I asked if they did a compression check, the guy said they hook something up to the car and it tells them (thru the computer?) the "barometric pressure" in the engine. This didn't sound right, so I'll ask specifically if they did a vacuum test.

The weird thing is evidentally the recall was NOT done when they owned it (used) before they sold it to me. And when I asked when I bought it "has it had all the TSB's and Recalls done?" they said YES.

I got an Enterprise rental (although I have to pay $3/day for tax?). It's just a Dodge Stratus.

I dropped the car off at 7:30am and they called me at 4pm saying it was done.

The car seems to have a little more power but it may be the "placebo" effect. It is definatly smoother (new motor mount). I filled up the gas tank to see if I'll get any better mileage.

I did not get any gas or a carwash.

did it today both 3305G and 4206F
service by royal motor, they are a AUDI and VOLKSWAGON dealer but they do mazda??? it's the only one in the city other wise I'll have to drive 60 miles to the dealer where I got the car, I am a little tire and don't want to drive that far so I took it in to Royal for the FIRST time! drop it off yesterday and pick it up today, no rental, no wash, no gas. they didn't road test it, it's 32862 when it goes in and 32863 when I got it back today.

A. 3305G Recall--Fuel tank concern
new pad, insulator and spark plug

B. 4206F Recall--emission recall
PCM & S-plug, Cat. Conv.

power lost in 1st 2nd and 3rd, car feel soooooooo much slower, idle drop to almost 0 everytime I step on the clutch and stop. It was way better before I did this ******* recall , now I am 100% sure I'll bring it back to dealer again. oh, and one major problem, when I bring my car in it has 3/4 tank gas and ran 27.6 mile, when I got it today it was the same 3/4 and 28.9 mile, guess what happen, drove about half day, it's empty and gas light is on at 109.9. I don't know what's wrong with my car, I hope it's not the engine replacement thing, because it was soooooo smooth and fine before!!!!! AND I'm going to track 2 weeks later...

WHAT SHOULD I DO!!???

For those doing the recall now, I believe that the gas/wash deal was only offered for a short time and is expired now.

RX8sprintR, one thing that happens with the flash is that they reset the ECU, so it will have to re-learn your driving style. Some of what you are experiencing may be due to this. If it doesn't start driving better within the week take it back. It also wasn't clear if they replaced your Cat or just checked it.

Got my recall done this week. All that was done was a reflash. No gas or wash when I asked, and the guy looked at me like I was mental. It was almost a full tank and it was raining, so I didn't care.

The days following this, I've noticed that starting my engine would not crank up unless I keep the key turned for 2-3 secs. (Maybe the cold, Its between 2-10F in Seattle now). This morning, it would not start at all. All I hear is a whining noise and no engine crank. I called the tow truck, and when the guy came I gave it one last try, and it started up after 5-6 seconds. I was cringing listening to my baby. Now my check engine light is on.

I'm thinking its the starter, but I'll know when the dealership calls me back on Monday.

The free fillwas only for 6 mnths.

You are really late on the upgrade.

Have the dealer or Autozone pull the code.

Got it back today and this is what it says:
Cause: Low voltage
Two trouble codes: P0102 M.A.F Circuit low and P0336 - Eccentric Shaft Position low.
Reinitialized and found no concerns. Starts normally when cold and warm.

I asked if the battery or starter needs to be replaced with a more powerful one, and he said the 05 model I had came with an upgraded one. Nothing was done to the car, but something doesn't seem right. I didn't leave any lights on so why would those codes appear? Doesn't make sense to me. Hopefully I wont have to go there pretty soon.

The battery upgrade was in cars after May 2004. The starter upgrade was in cars after Nov 2004.

However, a June 2004 battery would be 4 months shy of four years old. Possibly a new one is needed?

Argh! Cold long start again today and the check engine light's back on, and this time with the traction control light on with it. I'm going to have him call Mazda this time.
