RX-8 4206F Recall: Completed - Feedback
#427
The reason I mention this is that at one point my battery was so low that trying to crank the engine caused the TCS/DCS to disable like when you disconnect the battery. I tried to crank the car and the TCS/DCS light came on and I had to use the procedure in the manual to turn it back off.
The codes that were recorded were both "low voltage" codes. Maybe your battery is weak and just needs replacement.

They've road tested it for about 50 miles in 3 visits!
The clutch and gears feel real smooth now.. hopefully it won't act up on another cold morning.

bump..
Bought my 2005 Shinka 8 used from the dealership not too long ago with 69,000 miles... Now its idling rough, Cat sounds clogged, When idling at a red light the stench of fuel gets really strong.
Does the Recall still work even though I am not the original owner?
Also seems like everyone who has gotten work done on the recall end up with worse results. is it worth trying to get this recall done?

You bought a used car.
You don't know how it's been maintained unless you bought it from your friend, and you helped him do all the work on it.
You need to bring the ignition system up to snuff, first.

Have you tried replacing your IGNITION COILS, SPARK PLUGS, AND SPARK PLUG WIRES yet? You should try that FIRST.

Hey i am really sry, i know it said no questions but i have to ask... I am 20yrs old and buying my 1st car ever (an RX8 obviously) its a 2004 stick shift with 93k miles, some aftermarket wheels (dunno brand or anything just know its not stock) and a cool air intake has been installed by a previous owner. im buying it from a female in the military (only women have drivin it from what i can see, i payed for an online Vin report..all female names) and ive spent the last week reading as much as i can about the RX8 because this car is about to be my baby and my main hobby. i don't know a lot about cars or anything and im just getting into it and loving it. but my question is that if i take my car to a dealership and ask them if the car has had a recall done on it and they say no will they still do it even after the fact of the aftermarket wheel and cool air intake (and i think the warranty is up but not 100% though im sure it must be) ive taken the car on a test drive and looked at the engine and everything... the car sounds amazing and looks better im just really curious about the recall because i keep seeing the topic brought up everywhere... thx much for any help!!!

I recently looked up my VIN on mazda.ca to see if there was an update on the airbag recall and noticed the emissions recall. I called my local dealer and they booked it in for the end of the month. One could hope for a new engine after 12 years but the car only has 36,000 km (22,500 mi) so I think the best I can hope for is some spark plugs and a wash. Will post after the work is completed.
Edit: The Mazda dealership in my area was upfront with the fact that none of their technicians had done this recall before which gave me some hesitation. The service representative showed me the flow chart they used to determine if my 8 needed new spark plugs or catalytic converter and it was determined that my 36,000 km 2004 8 had passed everything and the only thing that was changed was the PCM programming. Even though I had washed my car that morning they had washed it and were pleasant to deal with.
