If you want the official documentation you will find it in this thread. I'm afraid you will have to do a little reading to find it unless someone wants to lead you by the ....

Well, I contacted my Dealer (Surburban Mazda - Troy, MI) a week ago inquiring about the Thermal Recall. He asked if I had received a letter from Mazda.....I told him - no, not yet, but I heard about this recall from the RX8Club forum and wanted to see if I could bring my car in. He laughed and grumbled something about us always knowing about things before them and indicated that an appt could be made so I could bring it in. I then asked if the 'R' Flash was part of this....he said - yep. Then.......I inquired about the Control Arm Recall. David said they are just starting to get information on this and couldn't do anything right now as they had no instruction from Mazda.
So......yesterday I took my 8 in for the Thermal Recall. Was given a rental car and told my car would be ready around 4-5pm. To my surprise, they called at 12noon (took it in at 9am) and said its ready! Great. Blanket installed and R Flash complete. Guess I'll have to wait for the Control Arm thing as I have a Group 1 04.
Now.....as to the R-Flash. I've always chuckled at the threads written here about performance, and the ole butt-dyno stories, but, I have to admit that I have noticed a bit of difference with the R-Flash. My car used to hestitate and seem like it wasn't quite as peppy under full throttle through 4-7k. Now, it 'appears' that I have more 'jump' and the acceleration is better......quicker and smoother. Not sure if it is a reality or my wishful thinking but it does seem like there is a difference. Hmmmm.

If you want to that feeling to comeback just diconnect the battery for awhile.. you end getting the same "feeling". If you really want to start from scratch just erase NVRAM using the "tapping the brakes" 20-times procedure.

Ok...I'll bite. Why would the 'performance' degrade over time (at least that's what I get over your statement that 'resetting' the ECU(?) would help)???

A lot of people on this board feel that the ECU learns, and will comepensate for more air from things like the ram air duct, or REVi intake. And will slowly cancel out the mods you have made, by outsmarting us. I did this whole reset procedure. And my MPG went to hell. I went from 18 in town, to 13 and 14. No more reset for me. Maybe my MPG will come back.

Interesting....so a basically 'blank/empty' ECU will provide 'better' performance than one that has 'learned' what the engine is all about?!?!?! confused

Think the situation through: the ECU has a preprogrammed set of operating parameters for an NA engine. It tries to adjust the fuel trim to achieve that target level. The correct operating parameters for an NA engine is different than that for FI. Therefore when it senses the FI fuel levels it tries to adjust (e.g. lean them out) to suit NA parameters.

Then you need to get your car checked out, once you get your letter from MAZDA. The PDF files says that all cars built between April 2003, and December 27, 2003, are subject to this recall.

ball joint

I live in Cyprus and my car was imported from japan with vin SE3P-1055xx.Acccording to a previous letter the vins affected was until 1002something.Probably mine is not affected despite it is an early production one BUT i want to mention something. You all say about the markings like K4 L1 etc...i checked mine and it has "cj" on one side and "cs" on the other side.Don't tell me that i was looking on the wrong spot because i saw the photos that a member had posted and i checked at the same spot.I found these initials and almost next to them i found a diamond shape mark and a "-1".
Any comments please?

Brought my car in this morning for the heat related recall and the service writer told me this one was coming out. I love this car and it brings a tear to my eye everytime Mazda announces another problem. I try to take it in stride as long as they fix it. As for me, no suspension or engine mods until this car has been running for at least two years. I don't want to hear them tell me I voided my warranty or affected a recall.

Yup, you would think so... really was just looking to say thank you, Gomez had contributed so much to this thread that I wanted him to know it was appreciated. I had seen them on Rosenthals site earlier, and was going to post them up, but Gomez had beat me to it. I'd rather have several sources to locate info then none at all!
