RX-8 Engine problems

Last car I had was an mazda rx8 after numerous problems with the car, catalytic converter melted, reversing sensor box melted, excessive fuel consumption, and two separate occasions the coolant light came on. The dealership got away from the computer and did some mechanical testing and found that the compression ratio in the engine was setup wrong and would need a brand new engine!! not bad for a car only 3 months off the production line hey!

Refused and demanded a new car after waiting the 6 weeks for one it arrived.

Things were looking good until overtaking a wagon powering on in fourth from 40mph the engine misfired, revs dropped to 2000 loss of power the engine warning lights come on, pulled over, car still sounding like it was dieing misfiring spluttering and very rough. Switched off engine (had burning smell in cabin) popped hood no steam smoke or smell? everything was at the correct levels as checked them all the previous night and car was an hour in to a 2 hour journey so was fully warmed up.

Took it to dealer no record on computer of this occuring or a log of any warning lights? Ran up mazda headoffice said take it back to the dealer.

Any one any ideas because the mazda dealership has no clue at all?

Hello, have you looked at your oillevel. When it's to high, when you rev up to 7k
there's a possibility that you get oil in your intake. You can also see this by looking at your airfilter, there should be a black stain.

Did you get certified compression readings on the replacement engine from the factory or have compression readings pulled by the dealer on the replacement when it was being installed. Just because it was a replacement unit doesn't mean it was healthy.

Check thread entitled Blown Motor for additional details.
