ok first of all i can be the admin on this forum because ive been here helping people about this car since 2002 and the people that came before and after have faith and trust in me. question my integrity again and you will be permanently banned from this forum. got that?

second. i have never see a pic of that key icon green. plus another owner posted it does not

third not just me but several other people told you- the dealer needs to reset your immobilizer.

lastly no one should be sharing on this forum ways to by pass the immobilzer. it could easily be mis-used to steal cars even if you are not personally attempting to start are car that is not yours. no one shoudl be sharing ways to trick the car into thinking the airbag is there when it isnt in case someone is trying to sell a car that has the airbags removed and doesnt want to tell teh potential buyers.

Sorry to call you out on it, but it does indeed go green. When in the car, pressing the **** inwards will turn it green or red depending on whether communication is valid.

all I want to do is drive my rx8 like the rest of you.
I honestly can not afford to go to the dealer. I recently got a 5grand paint
Job that I saved up for and cannot afford to go see the expensive dealer.
I'm sorry if I sound like I'm being bad or aggressive but I'm really not.
I just want to drive my car before the snow gets here.
And admin I hope u see the pic above
And may I get an apology for being talked to as if I where and idiot!!

I do however agree with zoom44's sentiments. Disseminating a method of bypassing the immobilizer is (I'm pretty sure) a violation of the DMCA.

I don't recall what was tried yet since the previous thread was removed, but have you tried replacing the battery or using the emergency key? Failing both of these, I think you need to buck up and go to a dealership.

From an administrator and moderator point of view what do you expect one to do.

Yes, you are a new member and your very first posts are about an issue with your Advanced Keyless Entry system and "possibly" trying to by pass it it some way?

Obviously the Forum Administrator was is/concerned about any misuse of the factory immobilizer or even stealing other RX-8's.

Our Administrator is protecting every other RX-8 owner out there.

To answer your issue, there really is not much you can do with AKE, apart from renewing the Card Batteries, then perhaps removing your main negative battery terminal and doing the 20 brake pedal stomp to reset your cars PCM (ECU).

Apart from doing this, the only other option is to take car to a Mazda Dealer where they can re-set your AKE/Immobilizer...test.

Believe me there is another set of expensive electronic modules (black boxes), antenna coil, and sensors associated with AKE, that without Mazda Dealer diagnosis one is just pulling their hair out.

Just ask OD (member) here with his 09 RX-8 and AKE non start issue, slightly different again to the S1 AKE....I think in the end it was is ECU which required replacement.

Who is the YOU you are referring to??

As it was pointed out to you there is literally 10's and 10's of parts which "could" have been your issue, WHERE would you like anyone to start and stop when it could be anything in the electronic root system of your RX-8 with AKE, frankly AKE is just not worth the hassle when something goes wrong...IMO it is a toy.

This is why you were directed to a Mazda Dealer who is the ONLY one with the Diagnostic Equipment to pin point these types of faults.

Not being able to afford rectification is not a consideration we can change.

Do you have the Part Number of the Relay renewed please?

2010 R3 - Ignition not turning

I just recently purchased a 2010 R3. The keyless ignition **** has broken at the dealership (lucky for me) and they ended up having it sent to a Mazda dealership for repair since they are a Ford dealership. Mazda ended up replacing the entire ignition and steering column guts. Sad to say it took them 2 weeks.

So I pick the car up this afternoon and the AKE remote battery was dead. So I ended up taking it off the lot using the AUX key to start it since the car could not read the remote. Changed the battery once I left. Still not working...everything else the is controlled by the remote works (ex. unlock, keyless door handle button, truck) EXCEPT the keyless **** ignition.

My question to everyone is COULD this be a programming issue??? Either way I'm taking it back to have them fix is correctly this time. I would just like some insight on the issue.

Procedure For All RX-8's with AKE only (s1 and s2)...

From MNAO...

Steering Lock Unit Initialization (Only for advanced keyless system equipped)
The vehicle's engine will not start if the initialization is not performed when steering lock unit is replaced.

Here is the official Mazda (dealer) procedure, must use Mazda IDS (MMDS) for correct initialization, obviously one assumes AKE Battery is good,

STEERING LOCK UNIT ID CODE REGISTRATION [WITH ADVANCED KEYLESS ENTRY AND START SYSTEM]

CAUTION:
•Do not place the following devices in the vehicle while programming, otherwise programming cannot be performed:
◾M-MDS
◾Personal computer
◾Devices that can send/receive radio waves

NOTE:
•The steering lock unit and steering lock component are a single unit. Therefore, replace the steering lock component when replacing steering lock unit. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION)

•For this procedure, a programmed card key is necessary. If there is no programmed card key, perform the steering lock unit programming after the card key programming.

1. Bring the programmed advanced key into the vehicle.

2. Fully lower the driver-side door glass.

3. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC–2.

4. Pull out the M-MDS cable from the door glass opening and set the M-MDS outside the vehicle.

CAUTION:
•Cover the vehicle body with a clean rag so as not to damage the vehicle body with the cable.
5. After the vehicle is identified, select the following items from the initialization screen of the M-MDS.

•When using the IDS (laptop PC)

◦Select “Body”
◦Select "Security"
◦Select "PATS Functions"
•When using the PDS (Pocket PC)

◦Select "All Tests and Calibrations"

◦Select "PATS Functions"

6. Then, select items from the screen menu in the following order.

•Select “Steering Lock Unit Programming”

7. Perform the security access according to the directions on the M-MDS screen.

CUSTOMIZED FUNCTION SETTING PROCEDURE [WITH ADVANCED KEYLESS ENTRY AND START SYSTEM]

1. Connect the M-MDS to DLC-2.
2. After the vehicle is identified, select the following items from the initial screen of the M-MDS.

•When using the IDS (laptop PC)
◦Select "Module Programming".
•When using the PDS (Pocket PC)
◦Select "Programming".
◦Select "Module Programming".
3. Then, select items from the screen menu in the following order.

•Select "Programmable Parameters".
•Select "RKE".
4. Select an item name, and then select option.

Items
•"Answer Back Buzzer"
•"Automatic Locks"
•"Card Key Battery Low Warning"

Then if this fails the KEYLESS RECIEVER MODULE is next to look at.

As a general rule,....if you can start and run/drive car with "Emergency Key" then you can rule out the Immobilizer Unit.

I think there is an issue with the Dealer Initialization of steering lock/switch and the order in which is was performed, and more than likely the flat/low AKE battery has created the issue, which needs sorting out at Dealer level.

I think you have a very good case for the Dealer to recheck system, remind them that Key Battery was flat when you collected the car, etc.

Let us know the outcome..

So it turns out the chip in the key card is bad. New key and programming $350! I'm trying to get the dealership I bought the car from to cover it. They're turning out to hate me with the fixes they've had to cover.

Well if you just want to drive the car then I discovered a solution recently as I have had the same issue as you do.
I only have the smart key so I am not sure about the other keys but eventually the community can test my solution and validate it.
First put the embedded metallic key from the smart key or just use the plastic key, in the ignition
Second press and hold the key to see the red "key" illuminated on the dash
Third press and hold any button on the smart remote while still pressing the key or plastic in the ignition
Fourth release the plastic or key in the ignition
Fifth press and hold the plastic or key in the ignition-- the "key" light should be green now and you should be able to start the car.
I posted a tutorial here
Enjoy!!
