Rx8 died driving down the highway.

Hey guys. I've searched and searched to no avail. I've found similar problems but nothing quite like my own. Let's get into it.

Yesterday, driving my 8 down the 101 at around 80, when all of a sudden the tach needle drops to zero. Granted at this point I still hear the engine running, so I down shift in hopes to get the whole thing back in action. No go. The engine cuts out after that and I have to drift over to the shoulder. Once on the shoulder I go to turn it back on, all the lights and everything come on, but not a sound. No crank, no click click click like it's the battery.

so I get a friend to come down and try while I listen in the bay and all I get is a small click from the fuse box. I figure I'll check the battery, (Just put in New optima yellow top last week), check the relays and fuses. So, firstly, has anyone experienced this before? Secondly, what fuses should I be checking if it is that? And lastly, anything else I should check just to make sure?

thanks for any help.

Have you tested the alternator?

Problem solved! Went back and checked my fuses. Found that my egi comp 2 fuse blew, and then found out that it's connected to the maf and the vfad. I've got a revi intake with the attachment that gets rid of the vfad. Usually the vfad sensor is tucked away behind the fuse box but must have shaken loose and fallen down into the belts cause it was torn clean off. I pulled it back up, taped off the wires and tucked it away. Replaced the fuse and boom, fires right up!
