I left my car at my GF's dad's house while I went to Cuba for 2 weeks.
Told him not to touch as the car as he hasn't driven a manual in 25+ years and explicitly told him not to shut it off cold.
he sends my gf a text saying he cant start it maybe the battery is dead?
I call him immediately telling him the batt is new there is no reason to start it and once again warn him he'll flood it if he turns it off wrong.
fast forward one week from then. I come back - he tells me he started it to charge the battery. I'm surprised he did that because I had told him twice not to. sure enough I get in and try to start it. no go... He acts as though it's a surprise to him.
It's flooded. How? I have a D585 coil kit, sparks, wires with 23,000km on them.
I've never flooded this thing and I owned it for almost 2.5 years now.... I've even stalled it once cold after letting it run for 30-40 secs or so.... it still started up.
I don't believe his story to say the least and he's offering to pay all expenses and he was ready and willing to take it to the dealer, which I did not look to fondly on considering i have the D585 kit which they'd surely blame and charge 1000CAD+ to deflood, replace sparks, tow...
I call a buddy to help me pull start it, 17km/h in second gear with a bit of gas it starts up, car runs. But it feels so different. in first gear the shifter is moving around like crazy with the engine, and my STFT are bouncing up and down from +12 to -12. LTFT is +1
I used to never get STFT readings more than +4 to -4.
Just ordered new plugs and they will come on Thursday (120CAD shipped from Amazon Prime with 3 day delivery).
Could anything else be damaged? Clogged injectors? I really love this car. had it for half of it's life and it's at 80,000km now on the body and engine. Always did the maintenance myself. oil change, coolants, everything.
I've tried to search the forums but come up with info on only the sparks needing to be changed 99% of the other results are people asking how to deflood.

I have justin hesselrode's kit. He himself told me it shouldn't flood. But we did get our first cold weather snap around the same time he flooded it which I've heard contributes to it. Still sounds weird to me... considering i've cold stalled it in the winter and it was still ok. The STFT readings are at operating temps under load.
warm idle, i've seen it dip to -5 and work up to +5. only once so far though.

goddamn I wish I flooded it... but this is the first time and not by me...
but fine I'd want to look into this scenario a bit more... just entertain the possibility that some part of the ignition was bad.
I've gone through plenty of ignition problems and used this forum to diagnose the issues and fix it with all your help and I appreciate it. I'm no newbie to how a good ignition feels and I've seen the best and worst of it...
that being said - with a failing ignition I'd be getting long cold cranks, poor mileage, fuel trims, strong smell of gas.
I'll take a video of my cold crank in 10C weather currently even with these fouled plugs it fires on the 3rd tick as always.
i would have experienced other symptoms right?
I drove it every day before I left it - any way he could have flooded it through user error?
either way I was going to leave this til Thursday but I am going to just check the wires today and not drive it.

Well there you go. But at idle -5 or +5 when warm is out of spec if that is your average. A simple flood should not affect how it runs after it is deflooded and with a properly working ignition it should never flood anyway. But with a cobbled together ignition kit anything is possible.

fuel trims really go crazy getting on/off the throttle.

Lets get on this shifter issue.. Is the shifter just vibrating with the engine idle or is there looseness in the shifter?? Did you check the mileage on the odometer to see if it was driven while you were gone?
