Rx8 turns off if I don't give it gas?
Hello, my 8 has low compression. I'm getting a rebuild on hopefully soon but I'm curious as to why does my 8 turns off if I don't give it gas? Like it would go lower than the idle rpm and it would shut off completely. Could it be the fuel pump or something else? 04 with 163k. First rebuild was done 15k miles ago

It's the compression. The rotary engine makes more compression the faster it spins. The engine needs a sufficient compression level in order to properly combust the air/fuel. At idle, your compression is clearly not sufficient to keep it running, but at higher RPM, you do have enough compression. You can keep a rotary running even without seals at all if you keep the RPMs high enough.

It's likely due to your compression problem. Don't worry about it until after you get the engine replaced. Fuel pump problems usually show up when you have less than 1/4 tank of gas. You could try to replace ignition components (coils, plugs and wires) and cleaning the MAF in the mean time.
