Rx8 will not start. (No cranks either)
Hello,
Rx8 2005 Manuel
Could anybody give advice on why the rx8 wont start up.
My Story is that I had the car in the garage during the winter and I went to start it up one day and of course the battery went dead. SO I took it out and had it charged. Plugged everything back in and my alarm starting going off. So finally found out to turn it off stick your key in the door and unlock it. That worked, cool. So when I tryed to start it nothing happened. Lights and everything work. but when I try to crank it nothing. Just turns and it seems like its going to start because of the lights and everything restart when I turn the key. What could be the problem? Was working fine b4. I read somewhere where could be the immobilization but idk. The alarm did go off several times. Do I have to reset something?
P.S I went to autozone and they checked the battery to be good and at 89% charged.
I would realy appreciate feedback. I have done some research in the past about other things but I couldn't find anything with the same problem as me.
Thanks in advance.
ISSUE FIXED:
Thanks everybody for the help. I was new to this and should have started with the start. Had a feeling it was the problem. (which it was) but threw me off when I saw the security light come on and my keyless remote didn't work. (because I took it apart)
Well I had it towed to Mazda dealer near Buffalo ( Towne Auto - Your Positively Different New And Used Car Dealer In Buffalo, NY ) and they said it was the start and it flooded. So replaced it with an after market start. Then a good raping in wallet. (learned my lesson) Nice people but ehhh expensive. So that fixed that. Then realized why my Remote wasn't working... forgot to reattach one more piece to it. (I am now good at tearing down the keyfob and knowing what it needs lol) But dealer also cut the new key for me.
Bought a new keyfob but will not work because there are 3 different kinds. My FCC number is different than the one they sent me. So working on getting the right one (From Remotez4Less). Will post later on when I get it working.

Hmm.. Do our cars have a security lock out? If so, and I think we do, it sounds like you tripped the system into thinking you broke into it? Off to google, I am curious.

Does anything in this thread sound similar to your issue?

Also check your fuses and battery cable connection. ^_^

Thanks for the fast replies!
That one post does seem to be similar other than I never touched the fuse box. and I put the battery in one way. I believe it can go in only one way because one of the wires wouldn't even reach the terminal. (correct me if im wrong) I will defiantly check the fuses though and let you guys know. I do have a flashing car with key symbol. and I did have it flooded before but it allowed me to crank at least. When I turn the key this time I really don't hear that crank. If I try to deflood this and its not flooded. Will there be any harm done?
I will keep trying things and keep you guys posted. Just a reminder. Everything turns on. Just nothing when I try and turn the key.
Appreciate the input keep them coming! Hopefully I can get this running and me and my buddy can cruise our town. (we are noobs but want to know everything about our cars.)

bad/seized starter??..if you have a hill or some buddies to push, you could pop the clutch to see if it starts..that will tell ya if it's the starter..pray that it isn't a seized engine..not trying to scare you, just giving you all possibilities

I will be trying some stuff today. and It doesn't crank but when it turns the radio restarts and the lights on the dash restart. (i hope it is flooded. I actually remember now that my car flooded like this and would actually not even turn. Just have to do the deflood method of pulling a fuse jump starting it blah blah. Took a couple trys but started up. Ahh man wish me luck)

A roll start is a good idea. Sounds like either a blown fuse or a bad starter/solenoid. Are you pushing the clutch all the way?

It doesn't crank but when it turns

I had something similar happen this weekend... I thought that maybe my battery was dead and took it back to Advanced Auto parts (3yr warranty FTW on my Optima Red Top). It was a little low but still should have started my 8. They gave me a new one anyway.
Put it in...still no cranking, just lights on the gauge cluster. Decided to check fuses and my main fuse was blown. $10.00 later my 8 is running fine again.
Question for you: When you say it does not crank you mean that it is not turning over at all correct (like Topwiz mentioned above).
Also, when you put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position does your radio, door locks, windows roll down, etc. work? If not it is most likely a fuse...

Sorry I wasn't clear on what turning over the engine ment but no the engine will not turn. All that happens is that I hear a clicking noise when I turn the key thats it. (clutch is all the way down) and Yes all the windows radio works. I pulled the fuse for fuel and tried pumping anything out and still nothing (only did it for a few mins then plugged it back in) but still nothing. Any other ideas ? If you guys still don't understand ill make a video. Only thing I can guess is its flooded because my battery died b4 and I had to replace it and deflood but now the engine doesn't even turn.
I appreciate all the replies!

So I woke up the other morning and went out to start my car. I have very likely never changed my plugs, coils, and/or wires and if you ask me about my cat I'll inform you he's doing fine, just a little overweight.
Anyway, I cranked and cranked and cranked until eventually I killed my battery. Now when I try the voltage drops low enough to kill the stereo and soon I'll likely have it so excessively discharged that I won't be able to get it to recover.
While posting here it dawned on me that I had this problem once before and pulled my ESS fuse and eventually got it deflooded. Silly me doesn't know that all I have to do is fully engage the gas pedal to force a fuel cut.

Even if my lights turn on? I will buy a new battery but I had this one checked and they said it was good and charged.
And If that doesn't work. Im starting to think that its a 120A fuse which I been reading around or my starter. But why would my starter just die after sitting? It was working fine b4. By letting it sit, it can break? idk Is there any kind of test I should perform to find out if its a fuse?
Thanks

He had the battery tested and it passed so it shouldn't be the problem. There aren't really any "tests" you can perform to find out if it's a fuse, besides looking inside it to see if the filament is broken. If there is an audible click outside the car when you try to start it, I'm would say you have a dead solenoid and/or starter. And yes, it can die from sitting.
If all of the electronics work (radio, windows, dash lights, wipers, etc) then I doubt it's a fuse.
You should try to roll-start it. It will start that way, even if the starter/solenoid is bad. It won't start if it's a fuse, though.
Edit: Where are you located?

you can test the fuse with a multi meter

small single click could be of course that the battery is not connected properly or a fuse etc but usually is battery dead
loud single click or multiple clicking (multiple clicks in rapid succession) means the juice is getting through the circuit to the starter so either its not enough juice to engage the bendix cylinder or the solenoid or starter itself has failed. have them checked to determine which it is.
does your car sound like this?
