she just wont start after winter storage.

Ok I looked through countless threads and havent seen and issue 100% like mine. So, im terribly sorry if this is a repeat thread. but.... I am desprate! Friends and family are telling me I need to get rid of her but I love her so much

I stored my 05 RX8 this winter and it won’t start now. I did not disconnect the battery or put a trickle charger on it...just me being a newb, never stored anything. Also, did not add fuel stableizer....sighhhhh. I never had any issues starting it aside from a blown main fuse. But that was a while ago and 100% resolved.

Anyway I tried a charger on the battery, it did give it a charge enough to turn but not start. I then tried jumping, more juice but still no start, suspected the batt was bad coz it was drained to stone dead so I tested it and sure enough its bad. I had to buy a new one. I installed the new battery and STILL won’t start. All the lights come on and the engine tries to start but no ignition, not even a sputter. Does anyone have any personal experience with maybe replacing the spark plugs? I was thinking maybe it’s not getting a spark. I dont know where to go next. I have been afraid to play with it too much for fear of flooding. I understand that a flood in a RX8 can be expensive. It has never flooded before.
I have only had it for a little over a year, so I am pretty clueless. I'm so frustrated, I finally had something nice in my life and I cant even drive it. I,m stuck in my rusted out 94 Dodge sprit rat car....which was free, 5 years ago lol Its a beast but she looks busted fo real.
any help??

Thanks
Marcia

Can you push start it and pop the clutch? Sounds flooded. It's to be expected though considering how your stored it. Try the factory deflood procedure (RTFM), just make sure the battery is fully charged.

what 9k said or chances are, when you left the battery connected for the winter the immobilizer drained it and when you tried to start you flooded it so try the deflood or take out the plugs dry them get a new batt and start it up

How do I take the plugs out? Is it a labor intensive job? Where should I look for the most dumbed down wording for how to deflood?

it will require for you to take of the driver side wheel that will give you the access, however make that your last resort, try what 9k with proposed if nothing then try that... begin with changing your battery

Suggestions...

An 05 right? I would suggest that worn out coils are contributing to the problem as well as old plugs. It is not that flooding kills the coils, it is that when the coils and plugs go, it is very easy to flood.

If you have a lot of juice, the hold the gas pedal the the floor and crank approach will get rid of the gas in the motor. I would suggest spurts of 8 seconds, separated by 10 to 15 seconds to let the starter cool, only as long as the battery is up and spinning fast. Make sure to hold the gas to the floor before you start to crank it. Another option is pull at least one plug from each rotor and crank it. I would disconnect all the plug wires to keep from creating a flame thrower, or disconnect the e-shaft sensor to keep it from trying to fire a plug.

If it is a manual, the tow till it starts approach is a good one. I would toss in some fuel conditioner / treatment before I tried. If you have the original coils, you are going to need coils. I think I got mine from mazmart. There are some auto parts stores that sell them. If money is tight, get 2, one for each rotor, guys here will have to chime in on leading or trailing being more important. I would not put both on the same rotor, that confuse the heck out of the computer. Might not hurt to pull and clean off the plugs as well.

If it were me, I would toss in fuel treatment, pull a plug from each rotor, crank twice (8 seconds each), clean removed plug, re-install, and try to start, again with pedal to floor. Then start reading all the de-flooding threads. Then get 2 coils.

As an 05, the $100 thread in my sig is suggested as well once it starts.

Gotta run, pm for more info.
