Slipping clutch/tranny, power steering, ....?

'04 w/ 41k. When backing out of garage in the morning, it's getting harder to get reverse to stick - like I'll throw it in reverse and I can tell it doesn't feel just right, so I'll go back to neutral and try and force it harder into reverse a couple of times but it still doesn't seem to "stick" right. When I try to hit the throttle lightly, it grinds and I put it back in neutral and THEN it seems to shift and "click" into reverse okay.

Also, when backing up after getting it in gear, the past week it seems like the power steering feels crunchy as I turn the wheel, but it's only in the morning so maybe it's not the steering but the clutch/tranny.

And last, in the past week or so I've also had second gear act up twice; like the last time I shifted into second, and when I let out the clutch it made a "clunk" sort of sound - no grinding, and the sound didn't come from the shifter, but from the other end of the transmission, like under the hood.

Advice?

Hold the stick back while backing up...if it isn't in all the way, it should slip right into reverse....learned that trick back in my civic days

Thanks, that makes sense, I'll try that out.
