Smoke? problem

Not quite sure what is going on...

I was just on my way home from work when all of a sudden it started raining harder than I have ever seen before. Literally, harder than I have ever seen before. It was ridiculous... But anyway, after a minute or so there was already a lot of standing water on the roads, but I was almost home so just went ahead and kept driving at about 12 mph. Car drove perfectly fine...

Soon as I got it in the driveway, when I cut it off I noticed that there was either smoke or steam coming from the front end, kinda just gently flowing out from the grill and the wheel wells. Could have been steam, I'm not sure. It wasn't very thick, I could only really see it when the flood lights were shining through it... There wasn't a whole lot of a smell, but since it is pouring it may have just been hard to detect...

Any ideas?

Thanks

if there was no smell then it was most likely steam. Take a flash light and see if anything plastic that was floating on the water got caught up near the manifold or on the cat. Otherwise just keep an eye out for the next few days.

I looked and didn't see anything. But I may have just missed it or if it was a little piece of plastic or something then it could have burned all the way...

The car drove perfect all day today. No noises, smells, lack of power or anything of that sort.... The only thing remotely unusual is that when I first started it this morning, there was a knocking sound coming from the bottom of the car right when I started letting the clutch out in reverse. Just sounded like I had run over a stick that popped up and hit the bottom or something... I think I remember reading somewhere on here that this isn't unusual when the temperature gets down around freezing, but I'm not sure at all. Can anyone verify this?

sounds about right.
rain + cold (near freezing) = ice/ shrinkage/ etc
