so i dont know what happened
well me and a couple buddies were on our way back to my house yesterday, and i was doing my usual once a day redline in second, and all of a sudden she started bogging down at 7 or so rpms. i was like WTF? i look down and my CEL is blinking and i look out back and i see white and blueish smoke. im like oh ****. i quickly throw the clutch in and shut the car off and coast for a few hundred feet and then turn it back on. it starts back up fine, the CEL is on, and im like what happened? so it ran fine for the rest of the way home, and for a while today. so i tried to do my usual redline and she cut at 7k rpms. im like WTF again? i call my mazda dealer and the tech department is closed. so im wondering what the hell is up with my engine. if none of you know what it is and how to fix it, please let me know, but im going to take it to my dealer either tomorrow or monday and see what the hell is up.
would it be cause i may put in too much premix? cause i had a quarter of a tank, and filled the tank up and poured another 4oz in.
or would it be that i just cleared my midpipe CEL and that is causing errors?

ok. thats what i figured. i still have warrany til december 12th of this year. i know it wasnt my mods, cause all i have is new coils, plugs, RB wires, unorthodox pulleys, and mazsport midpipe.
what should i say besides what happened?

Cuts at 7K rpm as in what it just misfire (cel blinking) or it wont go anything higher than 7 K ?
Might be ur CAT is going to die, and its starts clogging.
What kind of premix u use ?
4oz is not a lot, thats like minimum.
I used to premix like 12 oz. Now I cut it down to 8 and sometimes 4, depends how much gas I have left in the tank. Idemitsu btw.

there isnt any oil leakage that i know of. i will check the oil level tomorrow, but i filled up the oil after this happened.
i just use some stuff i buy at autozone for 99 cents each. it has been working good for the past month and i have been getting better mileage.
i hope not, cause from what i can tell, this engine has always been going strong. i just drove from milwaukee to chicago to pick up a friend at the airport on thursday and it was fine the whole way and back.

I was just informed if you just any 2-cycle/2-stroke oil in the RX-8 it could have additives that cause sludge. You have to use Idemitsu or Pettit brand premix.

Who was the "expert" who told you that? Common sense alone would agrue against that. Additives that cause sludge?????

damn ... put the cat back on and go back to dealer ... sounds like new engine is on the way ...

Check your intake to ensure that your not getting oil blowing back inside of the manifold and thus back into the motor. I have a retard moment and overfilled my oil some months back prior to a mountain run and during high RPM points the oil would get sucked into the motor and bog it down all while producing a HUGE cloud of smoke.
Since then I've upgraded to a catch can. I have to protect me against myself sometimes.
If you're getting oil in your intake check your levels as you might have too much.

get a simple engine flush thing .... likethe 3 dollar a bottle kind .. do that .. oil change ... and that solves sludge ...........
part 2 - get your injectors cleaned ... its about a 100 ish dollar service... in every car I have ... i do this every 40 - 50k

Very bad, my gut feel says engine. Redlining daily is a bad idea. No matter what the "experts" tell you. We cross hold our breath for you and hope it is a minor issue.

at about 7K is when the apv cuts in--maybe it is not opening? Has happened.
Do a quick vacuum check yourself before going to the dealer and pull your plugs to see what they look like. If you have low vacuum 16 or lower THEN do all the work of putting your cat back on and pulleys back on.
See what code it threw-- could be electrical also, could be fuel pump and starvation issues.
Just do a rule out listed and go from there.

trust me on that one. its the motor. my CEL was on because of a misfire in rotor 2 but a week before i had my coils, plugs, and wires changed, so that wasnt the problem. and they told me on friday that i need a new engine.. i had the same systoms as you. a whole bunch of white smoke.. and does it bog out once in a while when you start it? if so. your in need of a new motor. just tell me them that i belive i need a new motor. and tell them that all the spark plugs,wires and coils are new. please feel free to ask more questions
