looks like I will become a member very soon.
One more test to be done on Thursday morning to complete the warranty procedure.
I must say that my dealership has been excellent to deal with.
I'll keep you all updated.
Time to start researching "break-in period" of a new rotary on here; I know there is 2 schools of thought on how to properly break in a rotary.

Well, got my car back last Friday. It was still running kind of rough, but figured it was just getting settled in. Got out to my car Sunday morning, and CEL came on. Got it home, and let it sit all day. I got out there to go into work, and wouldn't start. Sounded like a dead battery. Well, got a jump, and got into work. Got it over to the dealer on Monday morning. They saw a misfire code. They replaced the battery, and coils/plugs/wires. They were going to charge me for the wires/coil's/plugs, but I just had them changed out by them a few months ago.

So far it's running better. Still get a bit of hesitation at about 5-6k, but I'm going to drive it hard for the next few days. So hopefully between that, and the pre-mix it'll clear that up.

I asked my guy, and he said don't worry about the break in time.

Got my baby back last night! Talk about sticker shock when I saw the bill for $4000 and change (which the dealership is sending to Mazda, of course - my cost out the door was $0.00). It felt so great to ditch that lousy Hyundai Accent at Enterprise... I can't believe Mazda will owe them $250 for my week of driving that POS!
So far, the RX-8 feels much better, closer to how I remember it being when it was new. Of course, since it's a new engine, I'm trying to follow sensible break-in procedures (keeping revs below 4K, etc), so it's hard to say for sure if all the power is back. But the biggest problems I had noticed prior to the engine replacement were at low RPMs and idle, and those both seem improved. Time will tell.

Congrats on getting it back. Did they charge you to do a decarb, or was that under the engine warranty? I've heard that a few others had to pay for plugs/coils/ and a decarb out of pocket before they would have a new engine covered under warranty

I'm just curious if they do the TSB and think the engine is carbed up, and decide that they need to run a decarb before going for a new engine, do they charge the customer for this?

They did not charge me for the TSB / decarb procedure, though it was itemized on the service record they gave me. I believe that should be covered under the engine warranty.

I did have plugs/wires/coils replaced prior to the engine replacement; however, my car was still within its bumper-to-bumper warranty period, so all that was free as well. Given the wording of the engine warranty extension, I would say they do not consider the coils/wires/plugs to be covered under it.

AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH
Got out to my car last night, and surprise surprise, CEL came back on. Still rough idle, and misfiring at about 6k. So, back to the shop again.
If I wasn't such a nice guy, I would start to get really ticked off. 3 times in 2 weeks.

i bought a used engine from ebay, already broken in with 28000 miles on it.. runs great, and it came with everything so if something was bad on my old one then i didn't have to worry about it... great deal only took about 5 or 6 hours to completely install the new engine and get it running... took 1.5 hours to take the old engine out... went through the hood, it was a breeze, except fighting to pull the engine from the tranny, but that wasn't too bad either...

One final test needs to be done.
Should have completed the warranty procedure, but, the unit that does the compression check had a dead battery....lol.
The last time the dealer had done a compresson check on a rotary was an RX7 maybe 5 years ago.
Have to go back yet again for final results.

OK, I need some input here. I've gone about 250 miles on my new engine. I've had it back into the shop 3 times so far for the CEL coming on. The last time they found a lose wiring harness going to the injectors. It seamed to be running a lot smoother. Well, on the way to to work tonight, it came on AGAIN. I rev it to about 6k, and I can hear it misfiring when I let off the gas. So, what can I do to finally have them fix my car?

Just returned from having the compression test done.
I believe the results were between 8.8 to 9.5 (with some other writing off to the side showing 10.5 to 10.7?.....I should have got a copy).
Apparently well above minimums?
There seems to be a variance between rotors; whether it is an acceptable variance I do not know.
The results have been sent off to Mazda Canada for their decision.
I'll call back to the dealership and write down what the exact readings were.
So...... I guess we start looking at coils, plugs and wires?........good thing I ordered the complete BHR ignition set a couple weeks ago!.....maybe once I receive it and have it installed everything will be OK.
One thing that strikes me as strange though is the fact that I have not seen any cel's at all when she starts to bog down above 6K rpm and/or at wot???
I'll start looking through forums here for what are typical compression readings.

Car is running amazing after the BHR ignition set has been installed.
However, today and yesterday I felt the hesitation and bogging again in 3rd gear when going wot.
it seems to start at around 4K rpm and keeps hesitating and bogging all the way up to about 7K when I shut it down.
No cels? hmmmmmmm....any suggestions?

Called and got the readings.........it read on the front 9.0 and 10.7, then 2nd chamber/face(?) was 9.8 and 10.9 and finally 3rd was 9.5 and 11.0.
I'm not familiar with what a normal compression should be, but, trying to look around here and see what typical results are.
From what I have seen so far these readings may be very good?

I might have not put it right. I want them to fix it, but 3 or 4 times in 3 weeks to get the same issue fixed is a bit much, don't you think? I just want my car fixed once and for all. I think we're both tired of seeing each other.

Well, looks like I'm joining the club too....damn!!!!! About 5 weeks ago I noticed a fluttering feeling on acceleration from a stop. Also a slight loss of power. It also seemed to crank a little longer on startup. So, I took her to the Mazda mechanic who also has his own shop and he agreed it was down on power. He recommend bringing it in to the dealer so that it could be diagnosed and covered under the drive train warranty if necessary. It's an '04 with 50K mi. After performing the de-carboning procedure and new plugs they decided to go thru the evaluation with Mazda and determined it needs a new cat, and, since the compression was borderline, an new motor. At least all will be covered by Mazda, but I was so proud that I have had almost no problems with this baby.

Oh well, the new motor should be in in a couple days - none to soon since driving as it is with no power from a start is driving me crazy!

I'm joining the club. My car just died while I was driving and would stall out if I turned it on. Apparently my motor blew, pissing oil into the cat causing the cat to fail as well. I am getting both of these replaced under warranty, however, I am being told I need to pay $550 for fluids, nuts, bolts, gaskets and misc parts. Did everyone else pay for that stuff?

my car used to do the same thing before, it'd bog down on the highway or at wot and there was a definite loss of power. and i never had a CEL which is why the mazda dealer around me didnt think it was time for a new engine when i brought it in, but i got a new cat, wires and tested the coils and plugs to make sure there fine. but the thing that ended up solving the problem was my intake wasn't properly installed so when i went back to the stock intake my car has run like how its supposed to since then. just giving you suggestions as to what it coud be but i had a V2 typhoon intake which blew, so idk.

I Just dropped mine off today for the cat and engine replacement. So far I'm being told Mazda covers everything. There has been no mention of charges for the "extras" you itemize above.
