Lol.. Funny arguments... I wondered what happened to him..
I have an 04 and probably would still have the original motor, if it wasn't for the mashed coolant seal..
Oh well,,
I wonder how many 04 AT 's still have the original keg. Then compare that to an 04 6 Mt's

Joining the New Engine club next week, I have an 04 MT with 93,000 miles. Good time for a new engine in my opinion.
O9Factor, I was talking with the tech today and he said that they are in short supply of MT engines and they have an abundance of AT because the MT are going out way faster than the AT.

My turn next week. Got the news today from the dealer. Here's what happened (from the thread I started[edited]):
Old member; new name. Here's the scoop on my car:
I have a Sport packaged '04 manual 8 w/ 81XXX miles. Bone stock. Had the normal recalls completed plus one O2 sensor replaced while under warranty (don't remember which O2 sensor). Three coils have died, one under warranty, one at 56K and one last month. All coils now verified functioning. Wires and leading plugs replaced at 78k. Trailing plugs at sometime. Majority of the miles are highway. Had a puff of white smoke upon a hard take off last summer w/ a resulting rear rotor misfire CEL. Car didn't want to rev. Reset code same day. Everything OK until another rear rotor and general misfire CELs and hard starting within the last two months. Replaced wires and leading plugs and then the third (from front) coil. Reset codes. Helped for a while w/ the starting. Starter has never been replaced but never had trouble starting other than w/ the dead coils (now fixed). Feb '04 build date. I bought her new. I live in the Midwest w/ cold temps in the winter. I take great care of my car!
Here's what's up:
I have an excessive amount of oil coming into the intake. It's ending up going into the black plastic resonance chamber on the side of the intake above the wires and down below the air filter box. She's also been hard to start, especially when warm. I've also had high RPM (third/forth gears) misfires lately (premium gas is good). No way I should have that much oil entering the intake! Haven't been to the dealer yet but probably going in next week. Car generally seems to run OK (other than the misfires). Checked numerous hoses, wires, etc. Everything's good. Suggestions?

I got my last one at 96,000. Everyday, more and more.

It's funny because at first the AT's were the main culprits.

Looks like I'm to join the club in a week and a half. Just got the word from the dealer today. I've an 04 MT with 68K miles on it. I'm the second owner bought it in 07 with 32K miles on it.
Got a minute? Here's the story... Last winter when up in Maine, I got a CEL. It was the notorious Stuck Shutter Valve one (P2070? Something like that). Took it to the local dealership there. That was a JOKE. Basically they Reved the engine to unstick the valve and said have a nice day. If it happens again just drive it hard to unstick it. In the spring I went back to Virginia where I live and had no problems. I let it sit for three and a half months while out in Seattle. The battery died due to the Fiance not running it for ohh a month? Thanks luv! Obviously replaced the battery and no problems. In October I drove it down to Georgia. When I got to South Carolina it became hard to start after a quick stop for gas. Crank it a few times and it was good. On the way back to Virginia for the weekend it wouldn't start at all. Let it sit for a half hour before it barely cranked over. Luckily another dealership was right down the road. They told/showed me that the oil was overfilled and up on the airfilter. That the MAF sensor was coated and needed to be cleaned as well. Gave the OK and they changed the air filter, oil and cleaned the MAF. It did start better when it was warm. A couple of cranks and I was off. When I got back down to Georgia that week I put in new sparkplugs. Now I've put in new coils and wires and cleaned the MAF sensor again. Still having problems with the warm start. Took it to the 'home' dealership. Was informed they needed to replace the SSV before they can do any testing. I wanted them to do a compression test and check the cat. Yesterday they got the new valve and installed it. The Mechanic said it starts when it's warm but doesn't run 'right'. Tech hotline told him to run a compression test (funny that's what I wanted them to do) and check the CAT (deja vu?). That's when I got the call about joining the new engine club. Yay?

sucks to see so many engines being replaced.
The MT's are on a bit of a back order though, a local here just had one replaced and after they received the "OK" from MNAO, it was a little over 2 weeks before the engine was shipped to the dealership.

Well he did tell me that the engine wouldnt be there at the dealership till next week, then 2-3 days to complete the install. Although when i picked up my car today from them i had CEL had something about ecentric shaft position sensor and misfires. Is that common to have after they test the crap out of the car.

I think that was due to them only having one oil cooler . Then the boys at mazda got smart and started putting two .
My friend 8 was at the dealer for about 2 weeks. I got mine much faster. They did tell me its hard to get a engine out here fast. Guess I'm lucky

I never posted in this yet.
I had my engine replaced last spring (about this time last year) @ 55k miles. The dealer had my 8 for 4 week while I was on a training mission for the Army. They told me it was ready to be picked up the day I got back.
I show up 4 weeks later after many phone calls to the dealer and get a ******* bomb dropped on me....they never ordered the engine! The guy that takes care of it had the paper work on his desk for over 3.5 weeks after MNAO said ok.
They also charged me $600 for a new clutch, and were not willing to lower the price since they kept the car another week after the previous 4. I refused their rental car and filed with the BBB. I also called the president of the dealership and all I got was a coupon for a free oil change. I used noted coupon for toilet paper when I ran out
.....I should have mailed it back to him.

So i picked my car up today with the new engine and wow what a difference. I just have a question that i need to get answered. when they told me i was getting a new engine he said that it may be new or it may be a reman he was not sure which. So when i picked it up i asked which it was because A) im curious and B) i thought they only gave us remans...... he said he didnt know. Is there any way to figure it out? I have my papers from the whole deal and it has part numbers and such for the Engine Short block MT. I was wondering if there was a difference somwhere on the invoice that will tell me if it is new or reman. Thanks
