Some issues with my Eight
· Problem 1 - I am having some issues with my Eight right now. The worst and most pronounced issue is a droning or humming sound when I exceed 45mph and gets worse the faster I go. My guess is it threw a weight from one of the wheels and/or I have bad wheel bearing.
· Problem 2 – A squeaky clutch pedal. Man, is this annoying! I tried hitting it with some grease but I think I might have to bring it in for the clutch pedal recall.
· Problem 3 – The glove box rattle from hell! I have no idea why this happening. I printed all the threads on this and tried everything suggested, short of replacing ever part in there. I tried, two sided tape, folded paper, you name it but it just will not stop. It sounds like a jar of marbles in there.
I am at wits end on these and might have to drop the car off and have it looked at. Anyone have some suggestions before I pay out the nose at a repair shop?

I would also check the wear pattern on your tires to make sure they are all wearing evenly. When was the last time you had your tires rotated and alignment checked?

• Problem 1 fix - I took it by the dealer and it looks like the hum drum sound is caused by a bent rim. Not sure how that happened since I do not recall hitting anything. So it looks like I'm going to have to find a used rim. They are doing a tire rotation and balance right now to see if they can get some of it out until I get a new rim.
• Problem 2 fix - The Clutch pedal was under recall and was replaced.
• Problem 3 fix - The glove box rattle is a lose airbag assembly. They are bringing in an inspector to authorize the fix under warranty. I really hope it is covered because it's a $1,700 fix.

Well it's been about 3 weeks and they still do not have the airbag in yet. The dealer told me there are only 3 in the country which I have a hard time believing. Anyway, I got my new rim today and hopefully that fixed the vibration issue.

I had the same squeaky clutch pedal assembly, it was also extremely rough going up and down. I brought it in to the dealer here and they said nothing was wrong with the clutch pedal assembly and it was probably the clutch itself breaking and suggested I replace that. They said that the recall was for people who walked in with their clutch pedal in their hand after it having completely snapped off, but I would rather not have to wait for that to happen. I feel like they are just trying to rip me off and get me to buy a clutch, but they did not report my claim, so technically, I could bring it in again and have it replaced for free if it breaks completely. What do you guys think, should I try to bring it to another mazda dealer and try to get the pedal assembly replaced under recall, or wait for it to break and bring it back to the same place?

They fixed that no questions asked. It's the bad wheel bearing I am fighting right now. Looks like I'm going to have to pony up $500+ dollars for a new wheel bearing and hub. That does not count the new rim I had to buy. All said and done I'm about $1000 in hole for all the fixes. The "good deal", I thought I got on the car is now being soaked up in repair bills. Live and learn I guess. It could be worse there is red one just like mine in the parking space next to mine at the dealer with a blown motor. I told them to park mine away from it. I do not want to bad Mojo to contaminate my Eight.

Man, this story just keeps getting better. I went to pick up the car and my Eight has same vibration problem.
I took it right back to the dealer and they tried to blame it on the rim I just bought. I made them pull the wheel off another Eight in the service bay and went on a test drive. The problem is still there after the drive. Not sure what happened but they fixed the wrong bearing it looks like. They are going to fix the "right one” free of charge. On top of that they have 4 other RX-8s in there all needing new engines. The Mechanic the entire time kept telling me how unreliable the car is and that I need to buy something else. What a Dealer experience and nightmare!

So the motif of this thread: "The dealer is charging me tons of money and not fixing the problem."
You've found the forum: locate the DIY section and start to diagnose and do the work yourself. You'll learn more about the car, mechanical problems, and know when some mechanic in training is pulling the wool over your eyes.
Those other 8's with blown motors are probably from owners that didn't take good care of the car. But as a person that has endured a blown engine, maybe not.
Do the work yourself. It'll be cheaper, perhaps faster (3 weeks in the shop???) and educational.
Warranty work is nice, but only when they actually fix the problem you took it in for.
