I`m sure i`m not the only one with a split drivers sun visor - along the back edge by the hinge rod. Beware - Mazda dealers may try to tell you that it is "Wear and Tear".
Mine split, getting worse over a few months to the point where I asked them to change it (I had 34,000 on the clock). The service rep came back and said these actual words "It's broken so it's not covered on warranty". Things escalated from then. I have to say I had to work hard to restrain myself from punching his stupid lights out. Instead, I gritted my teeth and asked to see the service manager. The response was, "He`s probably gone home". So, gritting my teeth even more whilst clenching and un-clenching my fists, I asked to see whomever was in charge.
After 20 mins, a different manager came out and told me that it was wear and tear so Mazda would not cover it. My blue fizzy paper lit and the rockets went off. Suffice to say, they would have nothing at all to do with it. When I went to get the car (having waited another 20 mins) someone had totally ripped the visor to pieces and it was hanging in front of my face. That act of sheer vandalizm happened at Cook Mazda in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
I took the car back to the service bay and told them to "Fu__ing well fix it" They removed the broken visor and said they would telephone me the next day.
I phoned Mazda USA and the customer service guy was incredulous, promising to telephone the dealership.
Funnily enough, about 20 mins later the dealer service manager called me to inform me that they now had one on order but it would take nearly 2 weeks to get. I should receive it in a few days time!
What a load of crap from that dealer. It made me lose the last vestiges of faith that I ever held for those guys.
Good luck with your splitting visors.
Tom

This has been a standard problem for people here in Arizona. I know of 4-5 people that have experienced the same failure (many times both visors). They've all been covered under warranty. Apparantly the RX-8 visor assembly is very poorly designed.

Find a new dealer....
Mine split on the way to the dealer for the recall work. They didn't even bat an eye, replaced it under warranty. I don't even use my visor much, and ambient temp was around 80 when it split. I don't know if the problem is heat related, but from other threads it sounds like a likely contributor. It looks glued together.

My driver side visor split last summer here in Dallas. The dealer didn't even bat an eye about replacing under warranty. It may have helped that I took a print out from this forum to show that I was not the only one in the country with this problem. RX8Club.com rocks when it comes to giving us the ammo to beat the service writers into submission.
