SSV Acuator D:?

I have a huge problem. I went to my dealer because I've been hearing some 'ticking' noises from my engine when it's idling. No power-loss or any other problems. The dealer call me some hours after I delivered the car and told me the Actuator was broken and the entire manifold would have to be replaced. They told me that they would charge me no less than 2800 USD for only the part! God knows how much they would charge me for the work. They told me that leaving it like it's now would do no harm whatsoever except that the ticking noise would be there. Now to the real problem, a month or so ago I installed a K&N Typhoon Ver 2 Intake. They're of course blaming the intake to have caused more worn on the broken part than it would normally have and they won't do it under warranty because of this. I have a 2005 192 HP manual (european) with 30 000 KM on it. I asked for the part number for the Actuator thing: N3H4 13 100K

hey buddy, i have a complete lower intake manifold that i could send you... if you have any experience mechanically, you can swap them out. Or hell, just pay someone to do it for you.. you would save over 3k im sure.

PM me

If it's a 6 port the engine will have to come out to remove the LIM. Sad but true.

And really the K&N is not going to cause extra wear on this. Amazing.

Greddy: If that's the part I need I would really really love to buy it from you. I'm so frustrated now because I don't really know what I should do. I can't afford 3k USD + 10 hours work +

The 192 HP is a 4 port right? I believe the AT and European 5-speed MT is quite similar.

If it's a 4 port it can be done with the engine still installed.

Hm ok that sounds good. I still have no idea how to change it but I'll do some more research tomorrow and get another dealer to look at it so I'm sure that it's really the manifold that needs replacement.

Ask Mazda to produce a technical document stating the installation of an aftermarket Intake will cause damage to the actuator and/or manifold. I bet they can't provide you with any documentation and its only there opinion lol. They are going to try and rip you off, thats the stealership way. Theres a ton of great members here that can try and help you out. Im sure someone can supply the workshop manual thread link to get you on your way once you get the part.

Lower are different too.

I have found that the 5 speed is a four port engine. Why does the dealer feel that you need an entire manifold? The Actuator is vacuum fed. And it's the same as the six ports.
I just took this picture and this is what it consists of. I can be removed and replaced without taking the manifold off.
What makes them think its broken? What is broken?

First pic shows tthe mounting point. It's held in by the two 10mm bolts.
Second pic is what looks like in relation to the manifold.
This is a 6 port LIM. But the SSV is the same.
remove the two 10mm bolts and it will slide out.

My opinion is that it is just sticky and needs to be cleaned. A can of Brake Clean will do wonders if you remove the Upper Intake Manifold and spray the crap out of the SSV valve itself. Rotating it by hand while spraying. Its the copper colored piece in the engine side of the intake ports.

Called them today. He told me the reason but I don't know the english terms for anything related to this. He said some 'thing' was 'worn' and was not working properly and the part was not sold seperately so only option would be to replace the whole manifold. I'm going to put my stock intake back in this weekend and deliver it to another Mazda dealer on Monday. I'll see if they'll treat me better and if they have a different solution to the problem.

The SSV can easily be removed..and cleaned...it is really unlikely that it is worn...unless you have 500000Km on the car.

If you are mechanical at all it is an easy thing to fix...

If the actuator is broken...I'm sure Patrick or someone can get you a spare.....you don't need a whole LIM....

Dealers are such douches sometimes

Remember ... he stated the dealer said it is fine and won't affect performance. Just makes noise.

^^ That in itself is crap

If it's broken..it will effect performance andif it works..it won't.

If it is working..then what is the problem

the dealer wants to make money off you and so does the tech. mazda's warranty time for both 4 and 6 port motor's includes engine removal for lower intake manifold installation. Tech's no on 4ports they can do it with the motor in the car but no one wants to pass up 10+ hrs of cash labor, and the manifold costs you a pretty penny too. Whereas the SSV replacement costs like 3hrs max of labor and a couple hundred for the valve.

highway robbery.

printout and show them the TSB with the p2070 code, ask why you can get the valve seperate for the TSB but they magically cant for your car.

kevin.
