TX Stalled while driving! :(

So here's what happened, I was driving back from a trip and after getting full tank of gas I drove about 2 miles and suddenly the car stalled going from 3rd gear to 4th.
I tried restarting the engine but cranking was slow and would not turn over without me giving some gas but even when it was turned it did not sound right.

106000 miles, Manual, 2004 model. engine replaced at 88000 miles on summer 2010

I just heard back from the dealer saying there were various misfires on cylinder 1? saying they'd need to replace coils/plugs just to even do a compression test on the engine because its "wet" and coil/plugs aren't firing like as they should. All coils/plugs/wires were replaced 2011 september along with rear o2 sensor.

So I need to pay 130 per coils and 200 for 4 spark plugs just to even do a compression test. Should I just buy a BHR ignition set and ask them to install it since it'll be cheaper that way? I know my warranty is out so If the compression test fails i might need a new engine on my end.

They said the battery was good but there were some carbon build up on spark plugs. less than 20000 miles on new engine and can it be out of compression already I always baby'ed my engine, redlined everyday, regular oil changes, warmed it up every trip before turning it off, recently cleaned MAF sensor and cleaned my AEM CAI filter 3 months ago while replacing the radiator that was leaking.

Is this the end of my 8 ?

Spark Plugs are $80 at AutoZone, Coils are ~$120 at O'Reilly

Import Direct Ignition 23-0100 - Coil On Plug | O'Reilly Auto Parts

Did they make sure all the ignition wires were plugged in all the way? I had a loose one once when I bought mine, plugged it in and BAM, instant horsepower and mileage!

What do you mean your warranty is out?

P.S. I applaud your maintenance sir.

Well I'm guessing so they said wires were still good but it was the coils and spark plugs.

The engine warranty I believe is 8 years/100,000 miles my car is 04 so it's been over 8 years + I

have 106,000 miles on it so if i need a new engine, no freebie.

I told them about the spark plugs i could buy online which were around 20~30 bucks each the

NKG(I think) ones but they said "that might be causing the problem because it's not OEM"

well I thought since coils/plugs will cost me over 600 why not just buy BHR ignition set for 580

But If the compression test fails after replacing the ignition set... I wouldn't know what to do..

NGK is OEM?

The ENGINE warranty is 8 years/100,000 miles. Your NEW *ENGINE* has 18,000 miles over 2 1/2 years. Still under warranty.

Yes but I didn't bother arguing with stealership people lol They think if I buy it cheaper from

internet it's a mock off.... Well is that how it works? I thought even if you put a new engine on it

the warranty still goes out at how old the car is not since the new engine being placed?

Nope. The replacement engine is only to get you to the guarantee of 8/100k for the original. Otherwise, it'd be a guarantee forever, one engine at a time.

Come on over to the SARX lounge in the gulf sub forum when you get settled in. If you need any help with the car hit us (SARX) up.

Like Hiflite said, the warranty is only 100k or 8 years. So for example, I got a new engine at 96,000 miles and so at 100,000 miles my warranty was up despite the fact that the engine only had 4,000 miles on it. Plus the replacement engines are re-manufactured used engines, not new.

Well definitely 9krpmrx8 if my rx8 gets fixed hehe and no hector I haven't replaced fuel pump yet

Dealership never ever mentioned a fuel pump problem so I didn't think that was necessary

But I did read a lot of threads on fuel pump going bad. Well yeah I guess my best bet is to buy

the BHR ignition and hope that engine passes the compression test... or I guess it's good bye

rx8.

It's typical of them to require new plugs and coils before they will approve the engine replacement. You can get new plugs and coils for under $200.00 from an auto parts store but you would have to install them yourself. You should have had it checked here, one of our local members is a dealer tech at North Park.

well It's already at the dealer so I'll just order BHR ignition kit and let dealer install it

for 80 dollars. I mean last time when I changed the battery at their parking lot they

kinda got upset lol. So If my compression test fails and I need a new engine how

much would that cost me?

From the dealer you are looking at $2,000-$2500.00 (depending on mark up) just for the reman, and around $4,000.00 if they install it and you still only get a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. For $4,000.00 you could get a much better engine built (remans suck) and have it installed here locally.

Did they test the gas? Just wondering if the gas driver put diesel into the super tank.

I would call the station to see if there were any problems.

I searched various "stalled while driving" and "engine died while driving" threads and it seems

like it might be failing ignition kits(coils, plugs, wires) so I'm crossing my fingers that my engine

still has some compression and BHR ignition kit will solve the problem. I'm graduating in 4 days

and HOPING that I'd get a job where I can afford a new engine when it dies :x

I know the car itself isn't worth a lot but I've grown pretty attached to it going back to the

dealership every couple months! lol don't die on me yet 8!

if u wanna save money, get urself all 4 coils and 4 plugs and install it urself, cost less than 200 and takes about an hr or 2 assume you are not metally challenged. and it should last you a long while since the coils will have lifetime warranty.

Wouldn't hurt to ask. It's just as easy to put diesel into gas and gas into diesel when making a delivery. Has no reflection on the station. Mixes happen all the time. When Chevron got rid of their fleet, mixes went up over 200% in the first 6 months. The station/fuel delivery company would be responsible for the repair to the damaged engine. The reason for me suspecting fuel is the short distance driven after getting gas.

well there were at least 20 cars there with me and my rx8 seemed to be the only one that had failed...

Well I just ordered BHR ignition kit for 600 dollars lol

I know the service guy from this dealership very well and he said since it's an

hour worth of labor he'll just combine it with service/problemcheck they did +

compression test all for 190$ i don't think that's too bad!

Bastrop thankful for falling gas prices | KXAN.com

I'm sure with this many people lining up for cheap fuel at bucees I think it would've

already been on the news
