Stalling / Cooling? Issue in RX-8

Good News. Just bought a 2004 Winning Blue RX-8 MT with 63k miles!
Bad News. Already have a problem with it...

When we test drove the car a few days ago, it felt fine. Shifted smooth and everything seemed to work fine. The check engine light did come on though.

We had them check it at the dealership before I would buy it. Turned out to be a bad o2 sensor. Made them replace it and make sure the engine light wasn't on before I would buy it. Went in a few days later when it was fixed and the light was off and everything worked fine.

Bought it and drove it back to my house about 45 minutes away. On the way I drove on the interstate for a while and when I got off, the car stalled when I stopped. Took a few tries for it to start again. Then drove like a minutes and it dies again when I was at a stop sign.

When it stalls/dies, the battery and check engine light come on.

Finally got it home. When I turned the car off, a fan in the engine bay kept running. Checked the engine bay again an hour later and it was still warm/hot under there.

Want to get this fixed right away so I can start driving it, the whole reason I bought it!. Looked on here and from what I gathered, I'm guessing I need to replace the coolant. That sound about right?
The weird thing is that the engine gauge doesn't seem to be overheating, just stays at halfway.

Sorry for the long post. Please help!

Thanks.

the fan stays on after the car is off sometimes since rotaries get extremely hot.

Wouldnt hurt to check your coolant level anyway.

idk about your stalling, could be compression? maybe the engine is shot, idk if a new battery would make any difference.

Check engine compression at a Mazda dealer. And the O2 sensor might have been OK. The O2 sensor code could indicate a bad Catalytic converter.

Thanks for the input.

The coolant level is fine. On the Carmax report thought and I don't see where the coolant had been replaced. Hoping it is just that and I don't need a new engine.

I'm glad Mazda extended the warranty to 100,000 on the engine, I just don't want to have to replace it days after I bought the thing.

My cat converter might be bad. Even thought the light is not on anymore, I do hear a clicking noise from below the car.

Also, I think the dealership replaced or disconnected the battery. Could it be stalling at some stops because the ecu is having to relearn the power disconnect. (Just read this issue on a old post.)

Take the car back and demand a refund. Mine used to do the same thing, midpipe, coils and plug (and $500) later it runs fine.

I checked the Carfax and the coils/plugs/wires were all replaced at 35k miles. Has 63k miles on it now. Is that enough time for them to already need to be replaced?

Is that what is causing the car to die at stops after it has warmed up?
