starter died or anti-theft bugged? (not a de-flooding thread)
First, I used the search feature: 'starter' and browsed through the results, as well as the first page here.
2004 MT GT. I turned the car off the other day, maybe 30-60 mins later tried to start it, nothing from the starter. Lights all come on, horn sounds strong when locking it up. It just acts like no juice is getting to the starter. Same thing today. The crank before this, took extra long to start the car, it has been quite hot and muggy the last few days for WI standards (~100 F) ... so I haven't really spent any time in the hot sun, and it happened to do it in my old apartment parking lot, so I have time to let it sit a bit while I figure out what the issue is.
I have some ideas, but figured I'd ask experienced drivers for any clues or ideas.
Here are some of the potential culprits I came up with: Starter failure. Clutch safety switch failure. Anti-theft cutout failure/fault. Ignition (start position) failure. Connection failure (plug, ground, lead wire, etc.). ??? after those, I'm at a loss.
The car is supposed to get tlc this month (sold a CRX and the funds were going into maintenance/fixes). Was going to do full 90k maintenance (87k), coils, and a few other things. Was running (what I felt was) strong until last week, when at 7k+ it started to have a power drop (plugs & wires will be replaced too) and a bit of a cough/slight miss was becoming barely noticeable at idle and a bit while under mild acceleration (which I attributed part of the increase in noticeability to the 2 month old gas in the tank ... it gets driven about 3k/yr atm ... it ran smooth with a full tank the day it died, took it to Milwaukee and back to pick a friend up at the train station who was buying the CRX, death was after parking in on the return trip, test drive of the CRX, then he was to follow me to our new place).
I've only owned the car a few months less than a year, and put about 2-2.5k miles on it, with little issue other than the check engine light notifying me of a sensor starting to get erratic on very rare occasion, and going back off (had it checked at auto zone, forgot the code atm, but will find it when on my pc where it is easier to browse than my friend's laptop I'm using to write this).
If I've left anything out, or need any clarification, I apologize and will try to get that when I can get back on to respond. Also apologize for the rambling/run-on way I describe things
tl;dr: get in car, turn the key, only sound you hear is what sounds like the fuel pump coming on, interior lights come on strong, horn beeps strong when locked up. There is no clicking, no sound at all from the engine/starter.
Thanks for any time, input, and help. Have a great day :D
