starting problems

I was wondering if any one could shed so light on a problem i have with my engine starting. My rx8 starts when its cold, its not always a smooth start but if the engines been running a while and i turn it off it wont start till its cooled down, usally takes 10-20 mins afterwards. If any one has any ideas i would be very greatfull.

Does it crank over (but not start); or does it fail to even crank?

lee11 - to add to EDZRIDE's questions:

Year, mileage?

A/T or M/T?

Does it have the updated starter, battery (2004 / early '05)?

How long since (plugs, cables, coils) have been changed?

Has the compression ever been checked? Has the engine been cleaned (Mazda Zoom cleaner or SeaFoam)?

Is the Check Engine Light On?

Also - how long have you owned the car? Is the problem gradually getting worse, or did it begin all at once?

*Sorry for all the questions, but sometimes it's a pain in the *** to wait until the second or third page of the thread to get *THE FACTS*

Cheers.

My guess is they over filled the oil and some if it flowed into your intake pipe and dirtied your MAF. Pull out your MAF sensor and inspect the wire to see if there is anything on it and see if there is any oil in your intake tube.

You need to ask them what they are going to do for that money, parts and labor. Please give us the history on your car. The service it's had parts replaced(on that last service). Did you do all four coils , wires and plugs? Type of driving it gets(long commutes, short trip), fuel used(reg or prem), ever flooded, mods installed. Some on here have had this problem and it was low compression. A couple of cans of de-carbon cleaner(Seafoam or BG44K) might improve compression. This is just a start look at the bottom of the page for some more ideas.
