strange light and hose leak?
got my car back from a 30k service.
i have an 07 AT
car seemed to be running smoothly but after arriving at school i heard a strange whistling/vacuum noise i never heard before during acceleration.
so i opened the hood to check it out and im not a mechanic so i dont know how to describe this but:
theres 2 hoses, 1 large one overlapping a smaller one. the larger one seems to be like an insulator to protect the smaller hose? they connect from the oil (yellow cap) to way down below towards the washer fluid and engine. when i clamp on the larger hose well, it compresses with the smaller hose and the vacuum noise stops, is it ok if i hose clamp this? is this even normal?
and also, i just finished me 30k but i got the radiator light that means low fluids or something like that. i highly doubt this is normal too.

Call whomever did the 30k service and tell them they screwed up, have them send a flatbed and tow it back as you are scared to drive it, then have them fix it, and provide you a loaner if you need it while they do so.
A picture with arrows would be nice if you could, as your desription is a little tough to make out.
I can almost do so with making assumptions, but don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.
If that hose really comes out of the oil filler neck, then it is just to route excessive oil or vapors back to your maintainance ports on the engine and it would be okay to lightly clamp it to stop the noise.....but I'm confused by your description of it. Let me ask you where you are squeezing it? Right at the oil filler neck? If yes, then you could clamp it......but again lightly.
Have you checked your coolant level? Do you know how?
Is there any on the ground beneath the car?
What about anything else leaking........oil spots on ground?
You should be able to see the coolant level looking at the left side of the bottle when standing in front of the car. Since you don't seem very car savvy, DO NOT mess with the radiator cap at all!!!!!!
BTW, look at the picture below. See my blue hose coming off my oil filler neck? Is this where the hose connects that you are talking about? Do not pay attention to where mine runs as we have completely different setups, I just want to know if that's the hose and where you are squeezing it? If so........you can see I have it clamped to the nipple that protrudes from the oil filler neck.
If not, then take this picture and point out the hose you are talking about.

I have been searching trying to find out your symptoms, but your description is not helping. Give pix and DO NOT drive the car so that you do not compromise any leverage you have on the service repair personnel.

as for the light, i called the dealer and they said it is common that the light can turn on when the fluids are taken out and replenished. apparently air pockets can form on the coolant and i guess throw the light. sounds funky, but i guess it is a possibility.

Clamp it and see if it goes away, just don't clamp it completely closed.

This is possible. Make sure you check your coolant fluid level and have it up to the full line as I described above. Keep an eye on it and report back in a few days if that light doesn't go out but make sure you keep an eye on the level of the coolant during this time.

IF, it is just a clamping issue, then you are okay to clamp it as long as you are just clamping to a "connector". From your description I couldn't tell if you meant clamping in the middle of a hose or where it connects. As long as your "whistling" comes from where the hose meets the conneting piece, you are good to go for putting in a clamp. BUT, after connecting, make sure to reset your ECU and drive it for a few drive cycles (while watching the fluids and listening to the engine) to make sure all is well.

^..............thanks, I didn't know how to tell him that. I assumed he was talking about squeezing it away from the filler neck but still on the "connector" or "nipple", but I wasn't real sure! Can't imagine he was at the other end of the hose way down by the ports.
I thought about the fact that he might be doing it in the middle somewhere, but that would indicate a hole in the hose?

The "hose overlapping another hose" is misleading...
The upgraded setup has a hose surrounded by a protective sleeve that runs down to the maintenance ports.
I assume the sleeve is what he is referring to as the larger hose.
Now that said, there is a T connection towards the end of the hose where it splits off to each port.
I would inspect the connections around there.
Maybe even remove the whole hose assembly so you can visually check it outside the car for any cracks.

This is why I recommended he remove the hose and inspect it.
It would even be worth it to remove the hose, disconnect it from the T-fitting, plug one end of the hose with your finger while blowing on the other end (obviously wipe the end of the hose before applying your lips to it).
Then listen for any air escaping.
Or apply a vacuum pump to it and see if any vacuum escapes.
Oh well... we'll see what the dealer finds.
I could be wrong in my assumptions.

It the only thing I can really think of.............a break/crack in that hose. Wish I knew just how far back from the end of the inner hose that the sleeve starts? Obviously my 05 doesn't have this and I'm too lazy to go find a pic!

Funny that they call it a PCV hose!
If he was squeezing up by the filler neck, I could see it might tighten the interface at the connector, but I'm gonna quess that the sleeve is several inches back....if that is close to scale.

I wonder if it's possible he's only hearing the air pump after initial start-up and by the time he walks around to the engine bay and gets ready to squeeze the hose that the air pump whine stops....or as he manipulates the hose the air pump then stops?
It's just a theory..................but I wanted it on the record, just in case!

Well, he said he's going to the dealer so hopefully we will find out.
Can't help but wonder if he was having any issues and what he said when he went in for the 30k service, because I can't imagine why they(dealer) would be in this particular area(that hose) at the 30k service point? Guess it's possible if there is a crack in the hose, it was always there???? Oh well...............he'll get it found out.
I'm actually more worried about his coolant light issue and whether that is really caused by air in the system after change out and whether or not it goes away........and if he keeps an eye on all that was suggested.

just as i suspected - i had a bad coolant light sensor. i read up on it a while ago and i said to myself "this isnt ever going to happen to me"
anyway, no light on the way home. knock on wood.
and the hose kinda didnt make the noise this morning. but i guess i was just paranoid or something.
