Question Strange Whine?

Took a small video clip with my cellphone so you guys get the idea.

It happens loudest in 4th and 6th. Anywhere between 40-60mph. Any idea what it could be?

LOL, checked the trunk. No B*tch present...

Any real ideas as to what the problem is. I also forgot to mention that I currently have 49,200 miles.

Are you pushing down on or holding the shifter when this happens?

Yeah... my guess would be transmission harmonics? Try with a fluid change and go from there... Or listen to other people that aren't guessing like I am.

Not sure what you mean by this? I'm just holding the shifter like normal.

No SS. Just stock tranny.

I changed both the Transmission and Differential fluid less 10K ago using Redline.

Still not sure what to think of this...

S1lveRx8, I should have been clearer.

I was wondering if the pressure from your hand being on the shifter is contributing to the noise. So if you hear the noise and your hand's on the shifter, take your hand off and see if the noise goes away or gets quieter.

Did you notice any improvement in shifting with Red Line diff/trans fluids?

I've had that same whine for many many miles now. Mazda has always insisted that ALL RX8's make that same noise...

It is definitely exaggerated if I apply any pressure to the shifter (I have afe ss). The whine, however, was there since day 1, November 16 2004.

I changed my trans fluid at 50,000 with redline fluids...got a bit quieter for a little while but is back to its whiny state again.
